"Tamaki asked about 1,500 people at the festival to join him in opposing the relocation of a U.S. air base within his prefecture."

That's when he should have been booed of stage. It would have been very cool indeed if he just went and played and had fun, but instead he chose to make his performance into a clown act before it began.

Gov. Tamaki has one issue in focus, that's the Futenma base relocation issue. He's actually a really nice guy. And, he believes in his issue and he was elected by promising to solve it. So, he thinks he's doing his job when he talks to people about it. On the other hand he also has a prefecture to run. Okinawa is the poorest prefecture with the weakest economy of all prefectures. There is high child poverty and wages are low. The Abe administration has held back a great deal of money intended to compensate Okinawans for hosting so many bases. Gov. Tamaki should also focus on making the lives of Okinawans better and the economy stronger. But, he seems to be a one issue politician.

A politician who still defends the rights of the people that voted for him, a rarity in our modern political landscape.

Keep up the good fight Governor Denny Tamaki, many people support you in your hard political struggle against the mighty American warmachine.

Richard Burgan: "Gov. Tamaki has one issue in focus, that's the Futenma base relocation issue."

Wrong. The man is clearly for keeping Futenma open. If he were truly open to relocation, he would not be trying to delayed the THRICE agreed upon relocation, which would close Futenma. But, he still likes the handouts!

Mister X: "A politician who still defends the rights of the people that voted for him, a rarity in our modern political landscape."

Yeah... this defended a lot.

He will last the usual two terms and then the next clown will run on the same tired platform. Nothing is going to change. I love Okinawa but I am tired of this being the only issue these guys run on. Love that "No nukes" sign too. Wake up and get into the real world. Nukes are here forever, like it or not, and if you are stupid enough to give up yours then go ahead.

Of course he doesn't want the Relocation as it is planned yet ...

They are about too chop of lots of the Northern Forest on Okinawa Honto with all the old Trees and many animals and stuff ... they are destroying the whole nature there while the soil on the Bases is already drained in oil and whatever the military left in there.

If they would only close Futenma withouth destroying the whole northern part of the Island he probably would be happy.

Lately Okinawa get a high ammount of Tourists from China and Korea (it is increasing a lot from what I have seen the last few years) so they don't need the bases anymore to survive (still would hurt some shops and such sadly)

so they don't need the bases anymore to survive

True and they should have never been there in the first place.

"Hey everyone! I know you came here to listen to music, but I haven't been in the news in a while and I'm becoming irrelevant! I know you don't care, but since you're stuck here, I'm going to make you listen to me! Let's rock (as soon as I'm done politicizing)!"

Can anyone do anything anymore without bringing politics into it?
