An artwork titled "Monolithe 147," created by Japanese artist Shunsuke Francois Nanjo, is displayed at an art fair in Hong Kong on Thursday. Nanjo said his work was inspired by Japan's March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

I'm really confused about what art mean and who I have to call artist now. Next self proclaimed Artist eating Ramin alone in middle of room and peoples are invited to watch so called artist eating Ramin if not he was sh*tting in the middle of the room will call contemporary performance art exhibition. Also Con man is artist too. So I think that's con man art.
mukashiyokatta
Sorry. Not art.

I like the hipster statues behind the car better! So lifelike, I can hear their indifference!

I was a fine art student and this stuff just baffles me - how can a half car upended be art? He didn't make the car. Same with that prat who cuts animals in half and pickles them... how is that art?
Maybe it's meant to represent a car half buried in mud/rubble?

Artists are the original SEO experts. Explaining their work in terms of popular topics to gain attention.

Why not exhibit a real car from the disaster if you want to make a statement? What does this shiny new pastel car have to do with 3/11? Sounds like trying to capitalize on suffering.

@Strangerland, yea, you're right. I meant mysterious instead of mythical.

It's just a Mirage.

"inspired by Japan’s March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami" More like Damien Hirst divided cow meets lack of imagination I'm a country that manufactures a lot of car… Waste of a car!

Is it made of real steel ? If it is, then what a waste of resource it is.

Japanese art... be it a small boat or car on its nose.... is all about how inevitable it is that Japan endure hardship. Hardship is endured by, on average, everyone, Japan does not have a monopoly on it although they think they do.

In the words of Billy Childish ; Is it art or is it ARSE !

Waste of a decent car.

I agree. I have seen this type of presentation before quite a few times. Usually, it is the front end that is up, though.

Neither of those are mythical.
Himajin
It looks like one of the cars floating away half-submerged?

Modern technology (a car, nuclear power) interferes with mythical part of the world (a core of the earth, a core of a atom), which leads to self-destruction by the technology (a crashed car, nuclear disaster)...?

how is this work "inspired" by 3/11....More explanation needed. lazy to just claim a part of a disaster without the explanation

This guy is a mixed bag. Some of his work is minimally interesting and colorful. Most of it is insipid and confusing. Art is supposed to move the viewer, but this car is obviously going nowhere. For a much more thought provoking take on the Tohoku disaster check out this piece by Katsuhiro Otomo.
