Unfortunate name for sure, which is why it was renamed Canola Oil.

I live in Chiba, rape is the prefectural emblem. It's a little embarrassing when people ask me how to say 'nanoha' in English

Canola is not exactly rapeseed. Rapeseed oil has high acidity. CANOLA a derivative of rapeseed developed in Canada to produce a very beneficial oil with low acidity, hence the name: CANOLA - CANadian Oil Low Acid.
