Oh my... He is a good-looking man. Which is neither here nor there of course, ahem - Congratulations on a great win!
Ruwaiha Razik
Is he half Japanese????
BlueWitch
my my, he is INDEED a very good looking male...OH WOW~~~ Look at those arms... MMmmmm...
hope hubby doesn't read this.. O_O (怖)
gyouza
He's tried so hard for so long. Great to see! Congratulation.
TokyoGas
@Ruwaiha Razik I think his mother was from Russia(?)
Darrin Flores
Half Japanese(father).. Half Romanian(mother)
borscht
His mother, Serafina Moritz, won the Javelin Throw in the 1968 European Junior Championships and represented Romania in the Olympic Games.
His father held the Japanese record for the hammer throw for 14 years until Koji broke it.
Koji also has a PhD in physiology and speaks fluent English. His sister throws the hammer and discus.
oginome
Wow, he's good looking.
Godan
He's a great guy and when you watch him on the field he gets along with everyone. Having said that though, shot putters, javelin throwers, and hammer dudes were always the nicest guys on a track team. Big dudes with lots of laughs. In terms of meeting other athletes and sharing a laugh or two, I wish more Japanese athletes were like him!
PS. Um, Bluewitch, you mean your better-half isn't as good looking? ;-)
PPS I think his doctorate thesis had something to do with the hammer throw, too. The guy loves everything about the sport. He'll make a great ambassador for Japan one day!
Asagao
Such images of skinny muscle bound men are disgusting. As I man I feel presure to have such a body and feel that all women are judging me. How about Noda at the beach photos, they are more suitable.
BlueWitch
@Godan
Actually, I have to admit I married a fairly attractive man from the countryside..(6ft. tall, muscle toned, gorgeous facial features) You'll think he's from somewhere cold like Hokkaido.. Still, Koji is...mind-blowing. Half Japanese guys are HOTT!! (^3^)
oginome
Lol, Asago
SquidBert
@BlueWitch
And which half of a Japanese Guy, would that be??? :)
tmarie
PhD? I thought it was an MA.
And he's even better looking in real life.
Congrats! This is his warm up for London!!
y3chome
He is an incredibly good looking man. And I say this as a straight guy.
Novenachama
Koji Murofushi is such a masculine, handsome Eurasian man with a exotic face, muscular body, tall figure and is also a model. The Iron Man of Japan won the silver medal in the 2001 World championship and a gold medal in the Athens Olympic.
BlueWitch
@SquidBert
Half South! Heh heh =P
papasmurfinjapan
A well deserved win. I've seen him many times on TV, and he always comes across as a dedicated, intelligent, humble guy. And yes, he is pretty sexy too... And I say this as a straight guy too.
oginome
Why the thumbs down? It's a question
nath
I'm half-Caucasian like Murofushi. Japanese people always assume I'm non-Japanese and foreigners always assume I'm Japanese. I think I prefer being one or the other.
oginome
Which would you prefer?
gogogo
Good stuff... I wish this guy gets the same treatment as the world cup winners.
realdoll
Comments on his looks are irrelivent. The fact is he has trained hard .. his father is Japanese and a gold medalist at the hammer throw, who married a Belarusian Woman who was gold medalist at the Javalin. Producing a superior male offspring who was able to win gold. The credit though really goes to his genetics, not him.
BlueWitch
@papasmurfinjapan
Good for you Papa, there is NOTHING wrong in admiring someone of the same sex and it is completely natural. I've always been very loyal to Koyuki, and that doesn't mean I'm not straight, you know... (^_~)
ebisen
Realdoll - first his mother is a famous Romanian sportswoman (javelin). Second-the rest of your comment deserves to be banned or erased from this forum. If you only look as his body you'll know it took years and years of sweating, hard work and teeth clenching in pain. That's at least something to admire, not to bash. I'm not even sure genetics played any role, but if they did, well, that's even better for him and Japan now, isn't it.
LoveNot
It is ok, you do not need to look like Murofushi, he is one of a kind. He did great, congratulations for the victory, well deserved.
mimitchy
May be neither, just like the last Olympics
BurakuminDes
The reason he is a multiple champion is due to his sacrifice and hard-work. Having sports genes doesn't necessarily mean anything - apparently Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf's kid hates tennis! Murofushi not only seems genuinely humble, but the most likeable sportsman out there. Well done Champ!
Foxie
@BlueWitch: Totally agree with you. He is the hottest Japanese athlete. His legs are very beautiful too. Have been following his career for years now and I really wish him all the best and a medal in London.
LoveNot
When he won the gold my heart melt... He and Kotooshu are the best in Japan.
Shaolin7
Kind of refreshing to see the girls comment for once, or at least have something to comment on, rather than the usual pandering you see from the males here on the Japanese female models / idols / talento -- and I say that as a guy! Congratulations Murofushi-san!
yasukuni
Yes he certainly has great genetics. He's blessed with great genes for muscle building, a great face, a father who supported him all the way and still does. He has every advantage in life. And he is the definition of shiawase because he loves what his father wanted him to be and what he is doing and is good at.
But, we are all a product of our choices, and there are many people with his same advantages who are broke and strung out on drugs.
So, he is a classic hero and a deserving one. The women want him and the men want to be like him. And he's humble. Congratulations. Of all the stars people go crazy about and go to meet at the airport etc, he's a deserving one I reckon.
So, find what you love doing and have aptitude for and go for it.

Maria, BlueWitch, tMarie: Stop foaming at the mouth, ladies, although with all the pictures of scantily clad ladies that grace these pages I suppose it's due time you see a guy you like. :)
Anyway, the guy's been around for a LONG time, so I'm a wee bit surprised if you guys are seeing him for the first time. He's appeared in at least two Olympic games, winning in 2004, I think, and maybe even appeared in 2000. More important than his looks (at least to those not ogling him), he is intelligent and has a good personality.
Asagao: This is one guy that is NOT skinny or weak -- he's quite big, although the picture may not do him justice.
"As I man I feel presure to have such a body and feel that all women are judging me."
How do you think women feel, especially here where PC and equal rights still has a LOT of ground to make. Anyway, if you're insecure about your looks it's YOU who has to fix it (either the looks or the insecurity, the latter being better). While it's a shame we place so much value on looks (be it men or women), that's life, and in large part as animals we cannot help it. Regardless, it's not up to society to make you feel better, it's up to you.

@smith
Not my place to speak for Asagao, but I suspect his was a somewhat tongue-in-cheek post :)
SquidBert
We actually look quite similar, Murofushi and I.
Or that is, 10 years ago I looked like what he would look like now, he had spent all his days in front of a computer and nights drinking beer and eating the good stuff, instead of all that exercising.
tmarie
Who said this was the first time? I've been a fan since 2001, have met the guy and am glad he's done well.
TakahiroDomingo
i'm really glad for him, congrats!
shanabelle
He is so hot, and he was brilliant last night winning the gold! Congratulations!

lucabrasi: "Not my place to speak for Asagao, but I suspect his was a somewhat tongue-in-cheek post :)"
Perhaps you're right! If so, my bad, though there what I said still rings true. I've seen his 'tongue-in-cheek' posts on other threads and it's quite obvious he's being sarcastic in them.
Back to Murofushi, though -- awesome job! And like I said yesterday when he won, it's going to be an interesting Olympics.
MrDarryl
Job well done. Always great to see an athlete in a sport that is not popular making headlines. Way to go Murofushi.
