Haneda international terminal

This new terminal was featured on a Japan TV morning news show today. It really does look spectacular. They actually called it a "theme park" because of the many attractions in it, besides departures and arrivals!

The food, restaurant and shop areas were made to look like traditional Japanese style streets and buildings. The whole place looks very sharp and clean, and well, very Japan-ezee.

Yeah, seen the new Terminal too on the News.

Also featured the new Information booth for foreigners. Staffed by 2 ladies who speak Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

I didn't realise that Americans spell "storey" as "story" until reading this article.

Americans spell a lot of words differently from people that grew up with British english. ;)

I wonder if the first flight on the opening day October 31 will have a Halloween theme. There will probably be alot of people at the airport that day wearing costumes which make them look Japanese.

And I am soooooo excited to see that in November flights will begin service to that internationl hotspot and #1 tourist destination DETROIT!

Go, go, go Haneda!

I hope for a more interesting airport. Narita is very boring.

If only the flights from Haneda were cheaper. It seems to be another way for vendors to bump the price up some more.

Vancouver airport to Haneda airport = awesome!!

I did a quick search on Cheaptickets and saw a flight from Haneda to Honolulu for the first week of Dec. for $1122 (UA) and from Narita at the same time for ($1158).

A $36 differnce is fine, but I think taking away the long ride from Yokosuka to Narita is worth more than the $36.

Alpha> Interesting price you got there. I've been looking up going to Taiwan recently and everything flying out of Haneda is always a lot more than Narita.

Leeroy, my only advice is you have to check well into the future and be ready to pay when you go onto the site.

The only thing about those flights was that the ones from Haneda were leaving around midnight and arriving in Honolulu around noon, and departing Honolulu around 5:30pm and arriving the same day but at 10:30pm at Haneda. The flights from Narita depart early pm and arrive early am in Hawaii, and depart midmorning Hawaii and arrive midafternoon Japan.

I can see where they will try to make the case that the trains leaving Haneda will force people to opt to fly out of Narita. Since you figure if you get back in around 10pm, going through customs and baggage, trying to make a train and connecting train before they shut down could be hard.

@ xpompey8: you think YVR to HND will be great but if you don't clear customs, grab your bag and high tail it to the monorail or Keio line quickly then it's a VERY expensive ride into Tokyo by Taxi or where ever you were heading once you arrived. You see, that flight AC005 arrives at 22:30 so you have very little time to get to where you are going before everything shuts down for the night.

Departure to YVR from HND is a 00:30 on AC006 which is really cool because you get to FULLY enjoy your last day before heading back if you're visiting Tokyo or Japan.

KnowBetter, from the research I have been doing, that is probably the major selling point for flying in/out of HND. Flying back from Hawaii, you get to at least have the majority of the day before a 1730 departure. Same thing with departing from HND, a midnith departure would give someone a chance to put in a full day at work and make it to the flight. Just the trains trying to get back home would be the downside.

Now can we please get rid of Narita... I hate the travel to there

Haneda will have a 24/7 shuttle bus connection with Tokyo Station. I got this from a very reliable source within the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. So, no worries about your connection to downtown.

I hope the pubs will be open till late this time...

speaking of Narita, I actually don't mind the travel there. I did a Hong Kong trip from Haneda and it was very bothersome to get on monorail with suit case and stuff. It was very crowded as it was in the evening. Then I had to get on some dodgy bus to take me to the terminal. all in all very inconvenient and tedious. My airport limousine experience to narita was much smoother and more relaxing.

I think they could definetly improve rail links to Haneda. While it's quicker for me to get there than Narita, last time I had to go there it took a lot longer than it should have. The Keikyu line at Shinagawa station needs a serious refit. Tourist friendly signage needs to be improved as Keikyu's trains have a variety of destinations from just one or two platforms. It could be a nightmare for newly arrived tourists. Then there's the fact that neither them or the monorail have trains that are well suited for travelers with luggage etc.

Now maybe i can get a flight from the US to Haneda. Narita is way out in the hood.

Also, by the time you come out of HK airport, the trains and buses have stopped running. So unless you're willing to spend money on a taxi (although nowhere as expensive as Japanese taxis), you'll have to stay overnight in the airport, walk or get someone to pick you up.

Well this has all come a bit too late for me. I've moved and now live slightly closer to Narita than Haneda. Haneda only used to be 30mins away by train. Plus, I'm sure Haneda flights will be a bit more expensive. However, I'd still like to visit the new terminal sometime, out of curiosity.
