I wonder how they make the ice block so clear except for a square in the middle. There were many like it in the Sapporo Ice Festival I saw last year.

As if a block of ice like that would help.

I am not sure why the block of ice is there for, and how can it help? are you supposed to touch it? chip bits off to go int to a drink? is it phycological thing to cool down? I just don't get it.

A water fountain or a mist sprayer would be about a million times more effective.

@ JeffLee well mostly you do see mist sprayers, atleast when I went to Japan about 7 years ago :p
