A poster on the wall of a Tokyo subway station reminds people it is good manners to offer help to anyone who might need it.

and relieves many stresses. the first time he needed to take the 'subway' alone in tokyo (Shinjuku of all places) I knew where I needed to go but did not u'stand the payment/ticket issue machine, this many years ago when I was accustomed to a simple tap card. In the Q retreat from the Q everybody so quick and busy. A slightly older couple approached took me to the map to point, in the queue showed me which coins (any guesses at the year?) showed me the button, DONE, no uncomfortable Q delays! if anybody remembers thanks guys, I was pretty fit then, but the H.R. diminished tremendously.

To have to be told to be kind is not as sign of a healthy society.

I created a new account to make this comment. For my job I traveled to Japan about 50 times in years 2002-2017. I have also travel to England, France, Italy, and Switzerland. Often, I was in locations where I was unsure about train or subway travel or bus.

I want to say Japanese people were the most helpful of any country I have visited. Some give help before I asked for help. I understand many Japanese don't like to try to speak English even when they have some English skill. So, I very much appreciate their effort. I have only minor Japanese language skill. Therefore I am also nervous about speaking in Japanese.

I wish for good things for all Japanese people and the Country of Japan.

i've had the best experiences in japan in this regard: every time i was stuck in front of a train map trying to find/understand the information, there would always be a kind japanese passerby asking me "can i help you?"
