Actor Jude Law, 39, poses for photographers during a press conference to promote his movie "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, on Wednesday. Making his 7th visit to Japan, Law, who plays Dr Watson, will attend the Japan premiere of the film at Roppongi Hills on Thursday night. "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" opens in Japan on March 10. Law is doing the honors for the Japan leg of the film's global promotion tour as Downey is barred from entering Japan due to his past convictions for drug offenses.

Where's Jude's sidekick Robert Downey Jr.?

the question should be where is the ubiquitous tarento?

Oh no! Look at his hair! He needs to be taking propecia.

@Serrano: Why ask a question you know the answer to?

They sure go tough on the gaijins with double standards... If RD was Japanese and committed those kind of acts here he would have got a slap on the hand or nothing. I believe he was found in some kid's bed in a neighbor's house strung out on H many years ago (LA). I doubt he is losing sleep over it now... The dude is the man now.

"the dude" is a convicted drug offender, who would never be allowed back into gainful employment in the US if he weren't in the entertainment industry. He's a very lucky man indeed to have got such preferential treatment.

Robert Downey is about to get paid Japanese money, heehee.

I wonder if the same will happen for The Avengers.

I often wonder why Robert Downey Jr is persona non grata, but Whitney Houston was allowed in a couple of years ago. And people have conveniently chosen to forget about the fact that Jude Law's two-year-old daughter found, and ate, an ecstasy tablet at a little party he was having with his Notting Hill chums, and had to be rushed to hospital.

But I'm not sure I agree with my2sense's view on double standards. Noriko Sakai's finished for good, despite having a minuscule quantity of amphetamines in her house, yet we're all supposed to be in mourning for Houston.

The smirk on Law's face probably comes from his thinking "I can't believe you mugs haven't been able to watch this yet - they saw it in Kazakhstan last year"

I have watched many versions of Sherlock Holmes, and the Russian series are the best. Have read the books. Will pass on this unnecessary version.

No, he does not. It is natural development for every men. Men should not have the complex of losing their hair. Men who try to cover it look stupid and unmanly. He looks confident and his confidence is appealing.

How on Earth does a straight guy look that good at 39?? Deal with the devil?

http://danieldiaztecles.blogspot.com/ Robert Downey Jr is what it is. It gives an example of anything to others, and look good that is not well received in Japan. Jude Law has a good image, according to their real life, although the picture looks a bit scruffy.

.. and presumably Guy Ritchie was barred for making Swept Away.

I know life goes on, but I can't help but feel guilty if I went to watch a movie on that weekend...

I don't think there is a double standard. You are only barred from Japan if are convicted of a crime. Getting arrested and acts of bad behavior has nothing to do with getting a visa.
