To promote a movie released in October last year in the US... They should just try stop dubbing foreign movies and release them earlier.

Saw it... last year... Was OK.

"You killed my dog, dude !" Is this film as bad as it sounds ?

He's so lovely, and for all the flack he gets, seems unflappable. A decent man.

I saw the film on a flight, it's good.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Wow, look at all the fans. No wonder he has all those body guards.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

What some wag said of Katherine Hepburn, 'she can run the gamut of emotions from A to B', I think can also be said of Reeves. But he looks good while saying things like @Alistair mentioned and that's probably all Hollywood cares about.

LOL, it's actually a surprisingly good action film.

Eh no its not. An unstoppable, unkillable hitman and that with 2 sequels. But be that as it may, Keanu is a good guy, I hope he will make a decent flick again soon.

Bloody hel! He looks like crap! Did he fly economy?

85% fresh rating on rotten tomatoes.

It's a good movie. Get over it.

So you could spend 1800 yen apiece at the cinema, or buy the BluRay for $13.00 from Amazon. Hmmm...what to do?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

With that mug, you'd think he'd be staring in a re-make of (Robert Redford) in "Jerimiah Johnson".

It's nothing to do with the amount of time it takes to dub a film. Often for smaller films, it's simply cost and numbers of prints, as well as the fact the piracy is not a big problem here, so no matter when they release it people will go to to cinema to watch it. If Japan were more piracy inclined the films would arrive faster.

If you want to watch a violent action movie, I give this one a thumbs up. Was it awesome? No, but it was decent, better than many others.

I watched the movie without knowing anything about the story or which actors played the rolls, I didn't even recognize it was Keanu until quite a few scenes into the move. Some of the Russian speaking actors were great and Keanu was decent as well. Though I'm not to sure about re-dubbing this film, much will be lost without the variety of intimidating foreign accents.

Made the mistake of watching this crapfest earlier this year. Another silly by-the-numbers action film for the mouth-breathers.

Even intellectuals can enjoy a bit of competently-constructed cinematic violence, and John Wick is a perfect example of a well-made action flick. The style of extremely-close combat with a pistol during the Red Circle nightclub fight scene was a rare treat.

There is more to movies than watching Cloud Atlas while smelling one's own flatulence, just as there is more to reading than just pouring over dense literature (Atlas Shrugged, Tolstoy, etc).

just of note Keanu Reeves is the highest earning actor of all time, with a percentage of the profits on the Matrix Movies hes earned about over $742 million, on top of a base salary and still earning. Also of note hes given most of it away to charities. Even so with his other stock invetments and money he still earns from recent movies hes still worth about $250million.

Sixnteen years later, at the age of 51 he still looks like Neo. The guy hasn't aged a bit.

Is that beard dyed black though?

Was released in the US on Oct 13, 2014. Within a month, it was released to the good people of the Czech Republic, Denmark, Israel, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, Finland, Vietnam, France, the Philippines, Australia, Hong Kong, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, Bulgaria, Iceland, Romania, Sweden, Taiwan, Pakistan, Hungary, Malaysia, Portugal, Estonia, India, Lithuania, and Latvia.

By the end of 2014, it was released to the stragglers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, New Zealand, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Albania, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Poland, Ukraine, Chile, Paraguay, South Africa, Colombia, and Peru.

From Jan 1 to April 10 of 2015, it was finally bestowed upon the infinitely patient people of Panama, Russia, Slovenia, Argentina, South Korea, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Norway, Greece, the UK, and Ireland.

And that was it, for the whole world. IMDB lists no further releases. Everyone moved on, and put that chapter in cinematic history behind us.

...and 6 months AFTER THAT, it comes to Japan. 1 year and 3 days after the American premier. Even Keanu was surprised when they woke him up to fly to Tokyo - you can tell by the fact that he didn't have time to shave.

Japan releases foreign movies at times they think are appropriate to fit in with Japanese movie release dates. Unlike many other countries, there is a thriving movie industry here, and to release on the same schedule as hollywood would screw with their own sales figures.

Keanu Reeves: Excuse me, waitress? How am I supposed to eat this miso soup with only chopsticks? Waitress: Why, Mr. Reeves, don't you know? There is no spoon.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Respect the Keanu.

I just can't stand Japanese movies releases, this movies is good thought! They supposed to release long time ago, but two thumbs up for Keanu he went to Japan just for their fans!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Keanu Reeves the highest earning actor? Are you kidding? He isn't in the top ten. Tom Hanks is the highest earning actor of all time.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

@Noble713 - Yes, a well made action flick is enjoyable from time to time for intellectuals such as Clamenza. However, Keanu's acting was, as always, slightly more wooden than a coffee table, and the action scenes (especially the scene you mention) so ridiculous that they were actually funny. Not in a good way. The story about a puppy-death revenge might have been written on a cocktail napkin in 20 minutes.

Sorry. If you're over the age of 16, you should not like this movie

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

It was an entertaining movie for what it was.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Another shoot 'em up movie? No thanks. Any other ideas? Or is America so gun obsessed that this is the only type of move that will sell over there?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Thank you Strangeland. Some people seem to forget that Japan has it's own film industry here, and they have limited movie theater screens to show everything. Guess what movies they plan to show first? In fact, some American releases never make it to Japanese theaters at all, so we have to wait for DVD releases. On another note, Keanu comes to Japan often, and at times you have the opportunity to see him walking on the streets and riding trains. He is well grounded and try to be normal as possible.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

What takes some movies so long to come to Japan, anyway?

What takes some movies so long to come to Japan, anyway?

They try to find the release date that will maximize the profits of the movie, without cutting into the profits of local movies.

Enjoyed the heck out of it a lot along the lines of Taken one of those action films that just kind of blind sides you and beats you into liking it.

You could Google "Watch John Wick online free" Cost $0

ololol Look at all the "haterz" spewing nonsense at someone like Keanu...really? Pathetic.

It would also be quite easy to say, "Lol look at all the sycophantic fans gushing at Keanu".

Why such a rabid down thumbing ? I only asked if this was as bad as it sounds, get a grip people.

It could be worse. Several years ago there was a Thai action film called Tom Yum Goong (The Protector). The premise of the film was the protagonist's family elephant was stolen and he's out for vengeance. That's right. Elephant.

As for the film, it has a RottenTomatoes score of 85%. Should be a reasonably entertaining action flick worth seeing.

What Upgreyedd said. It was indeed surprisingly good.

Yes, if you want to give your credit card number and other personal information to a unheard of website.

For those who say he looks like crap I have to say I think he looks pretty darn good for 51, and not really his age at all. Older than when he did Bill & Ted's, for sure, but not by a whole lot.

In any case, I'll wait for this, which I didn't even know about, until it comes out for rental (in Japan). Doesn't sound like it's worth paying 1800 for.

"To promote a movie released in October last year in the US... They should just try stop dubbing foreign movies and release them earlier."

Has nothing to do with dubbing, as Japan sometimes brags about being the "first in the world" to release a film if it's big (I think they're doing that about Star Wars), and have dubbed versions. They release it late because it's cheaper, and because they can get the stars to come to Japan for the premieres, as Keanu is doing here. Generally it's three months later, depending on how big a hit it is (sometimes a week), but recently there have been a number that are being released a year later (the spy one playing right now is another movie).

You DO realize that a test pattern would get at least 60% approval rating on RottenTomatoes if it had at least 2 explosions? These are the same 12 year-old mouth-breathers that rated the latest Mad Max snoozeathon as Best. Movie. Ever.

One thing about Keanu is that he doesn't spend money like a lot of celebrities do. He drives used cars and sometimes crashes on friends' sofas.

easily one of the worst actors ever. whether or not he is a nice guy is irrelevant
