Just like Softbank's robot Pepper. We hear an awful lot about Japan's sparkling future of robotics and AI but how much is actually being created here? It seems like France and the US are streets ahead.

I had to check because when NHK 7:00 pm news introduced this vehicle the other night they actually didn't say anything about where it came from, though had it been Toyota or Panasonic they would likely have done so. Of course, if it crashes or bumps into a pedestrian we will quickly know its provenance.

Yeh, its the EZ10 shuttle. I'ms sure some Japanese company makes something similar - it will just cost 10 times more and required a specially made road.

That is just the perception because we here a lot about Japanese companies using robots for weird reasons in the media. Like education, they are behind many developed countries in terms of technology research despite being the World's third largest economy. Of course, one reason is the language barrier and their lack of cooperation. China is even worse that is why they acquire most of their advanced technology through espionage, bribery, and blackmail.

I remember years ago working for Olympus R&D division in HIno. One thing that I remember was the long bus ride from the station. The second thing was that all their projects had mostly foreign researchers working on them with only Japanese employees as the leads on the projects.
