My ex told me to stop saying it... no wonder she's my ex lol. Her excuse was that Japanese don't tell each other they love each other... we live and learn :)

Then there isn't any problem. A bunch of people doing something they want to do in a place where they are meant to do it, where people who don't want to see it don't have to go.

No there isn't a problem. They are free to do what they want and I am free to espress my displeasure at it, as long as I don't disrupt it.

Why? what's the problem?

No problem. They can do it if they want. But I just think that it would be better not to shout it out in public, that's all

Then said members of the world would probably be best off not going to an "event organized for men to express their love to their wives or girlfriends publicly

They won't.

Action speaks louder than words Everyone has a mouth, it is easy to say anything to anyone, anytime. If my man takes me there, I would reply him: dont say, just prove it, everyday.

But, I even dont need to say that, cos he proves his love everyday already^^ We dont need a special day, nor occassion for it.

I wonder if the wive/gf appreciates this kind of "event" or not.....

Funny, but I would be embarrassed if my husband did this in public.

My favorite is when he comes home with a big smile "you're a sight for sore eyes!" even though I had a rough day at work too and my makeup is gone.

Nice to hear, I tell my wife a couple of times a day, I love her, it never gets old, it never gets tiring, she's just an amazing woman and I feel so blessed to have her and my kids. Yes, we all grew up in different cultures and I know the Japanese are not so in your face when it comes to romance and love, I don't think the love is less, it's just different how they express it, me, I'm just an old fashioned western wine, candlelight guy and more power to these dudes to have the courage to get in front of a mic and shout it out!

...but this should most certainly NOT be one of them.

Why? what's the problem?

There was an event some time ago (may still be) where you could pay money at a fireworks display and each time one went up the organizers would read the wish before the burst, with most being expressions of love. It was romantic. If this works for people, fine, but I hope they also actually show it when at home (both men and women).

of course they can do that, but these people want the whole world to know

but maybe the world doesn't want to know.

For once I agree with thunderbird. The first time I saw that in a movie I LOL so hard, truly hilarious.

of course they can do that, but these people want the whole world to know :) women (I can't speak for men because I'm a woman) likes it when we get to hear "I love you" in front of others :)

Maybe the world doesn't want or care to know. And you can show the world that you care about your spouse through as sensei said

, by walking her to the station when the weather is bad or she has a lot to carry,

or many other ways. Shouting it out is just plain stupid.

And before anyone considers calling me a japan hater let me say this: I detest this stupid practice and that's it. I also lost a lot of respect for Tom Cruise when he did something similar on Oprah Winfrey for Katie Holmes, so this is not a Japan bashing thing, nor is doing stupid things to declare your love a strictly japanese thing.

remember vincent van gogh? he cut off his ear to prove his love to his girlfriend. doesn't mean I have to laud or applaud that. There are countlessly stupid ways to express your love. This is one of them.

Men (and women) should learn to express their love vocally in the privacy of their home.

Young and deeply in love. He is not a public figure or celebrities. As a law abiding private citizen, he can express his feeling to his honey in private venue. It is none of other people people business for bashing his way of expressing his love.

You only live and young once. Not twice.

Hopefully he will still love his wife or girlfriend when they are old and grey.

"tsukiatte kudasai!!!!!" japanese way to ask out a lady... (you have to shout while bowing and asking for a handshake, all at the same time)

3 ( +4 / -1 )

a good sign of human experience that should never be held back but it is a significant cultural difference compared to open and free countries where this would never, ever, be an issue

What is it with Japan and shouting? Movies too, always on the roof or on a cliff shouting, i dont mind, but id like to know the history behind it.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I think the shout out for love is good for these people who hold so much in.

They should have a shout at your boss day too.

Screaming does not show passion.

Readers, this was a fun event. Japan-haters, please stay off this thread.

Why hell do you need a stupid event like that?? Men (and women) should learn to express their love vocally in the privacy of their home. I get the idea that most Japanese like to do things in groups but this should most certainly NOT be one of them.

I don't have a boyfriend, wisely because if Romeo's declarations of undying love under Juliet's bedroom window are anything to go by, I mean it didn't exactly end well, I would settle for a more discreet dining experience at one of my favorite eateries..........Put the mike down!, mines a Gin and Tonic. .

of course one should say it, but "actions speak louder than words"

Lol sensei258 Is that "enough" or does she think you should still SAY it more?

I often "shout my love" to my wife, by doing the housework everyday so she can relax (we both work), by getting her breakfast and coffee every morning before she leaves for work, by walking her to the station when the weather is bad or she has a lot to carry, by...

The amount of people I meet (especially later on in life) who do not love their spouse at all is staggering and a little scary. It's kinda funny as an event but he seems to be genuine. Good man! :)
