Actress Natsuki Kato, 25, center, poses with 12 girls dressed as maids at an event in Akihabara to launch adidas' new line of footwear, the XL series. The shoes are aimed at men in the 18-22 age range, whose buying habits are influenced by their girlfriends, according to adidas.

Hollywood make movies based on video games and manga... like it or not, 'nerd culture' is no longer looking in through the window, it has now entered the building.

I can imagine the boys wearing the extra large pink shoes ( 3rd back row, left )

And Addidas will make a bundle regardless, gotta love it if you own Addidas stock that is.

herefornow, totally agree with you! Only a bunch of losers will like this.

Actress Natsuki Kato, 25, center seems to have a long torso.
Not a maid outfit fetishIST, just wondering...........how many layers they have ?

Heh, yet, this promotional campaign kickoff took place in Akihabara, i.e., otaku grand central. Guess their manga girlfriends "talk" to them.

tokyochris -- The FACT is I know the maid "thing" is quite popular in Japan, I live here. And that's the problem, IMO. That a "culture" primarily created for a bunch of nerds who have no life other than video games, and manga/anime -- meaning totally consumed by fantasy -- has crept into promotion for a brand as iconic as adidas. IMO, just shows how low the male culture has sunk here.

"XL Girl Friends" could be translated into big-size girls, but I know that promotes Adidas sneakers to Japanese dudes in ages of 18-22. Models put on maid customs to attract more male buyers. Natsuki Kato looked younger in this advertisement shoot.

this is messed up

If you don'T already look like a dork, just wait 'til you slide on a pair of these "bad boys" . . . Bright pink & purple with neon yellow & green trim! You wear size 25, but you buy a size 30.
The girls above should be naked ;)

The FACT is that the maid 'thing' is quite popular in Japan and why shouldn't Adidas use that to their advantage? It's no different to using models or iconic figures in advertising used elsewhere in my opinion
Jkanda
Exploitation by Adidas.

@herefornow B@lls and J-men are never found in the same sentence... Completely agree with you too.

Same thing I was thinking Gaijinfo. XL Girl Friends?
gaijinfo
I'm not too sure many guys would be so thrilled about having an XL girlfriend.
Just sayin.
Of course none these girls look XL, so maybe I'm missing something.

Just plain sad.. that a brand of adidas' stature would stoop to this form of juvenile effort to sell sneakers here. Just goes to show how totally un-athletic Japanese men have become -- that they use maids to promote the product, because the wimps girlfriends influence their buying habits. Grow some b@lls J-men, and put down the PS3's and actually particpate in something.
nightflesh
Yes, they have much different styles here that you won't see in the US or Europe. Too bad having a size 32 shoe will disable my style hunger.

Are those sneakers maid in Japan?
