of Japan? She does not live here or even speak Japanese

Unbelievable! If Naomi-chan and Kei-chan make US Open Final, people will be dancing on the streets! This is a big boost for Tokyo 2020, for tennis Gold Medals.

of Japan? She does not live here or even speak Japanese

Not true. She is Japanese citizen and lives Japan.

I mean "she loves Japan ". She lives now in New York.

I live here and speak better Japanese than she ever will.

But I will never be Japanese, and have no desire to be.

Nationality is a ridiculous concept in the 21st century, but it is what it is - useful for editorializing, but safely ignored.

Now or never for Osaka (and Nishikori). She'll play Tsurenko -who's unseeded- in the qf.

Now or never? She's 20 years old!

And Kei is middle aged, looking at the names left in the men's side.

But she's got Japanese blood running through her veins; she's got ancestral roots in the country; ultimately she was even born there.

All things you'll never be, or have, even if you wanted to.

She's Japanese.

Readers, this ends discussion on this point. Please discuss her playing ability.

fxgai, you're taking things far too literally. 'now or never' i.e. she's had a pretty decent draw so far (no top 20), will face an unseeded player in the qf and there's only 2 top 8 left. Golden opportunity to reach the final & hopefully win her first major.

As for injury-prone Nishikori, he's no Federer/Nadal and i doubt he'll be around in 5-10 years time.

When she first entered the scene, I would tell my coworkers my favourite tennis player was Naomi Osaka, and they would say, "Who??" Now, suddenly, they all seem to love Naomi Osaka. Fair enough, she's playing great and is successful. Good luck to her. And Kei too, of course.

Go Naomi! Love you.
