Job-hunting

In Canada we had what is called "A banker's shoe". Then noted teeners wanted them but usually a banker's shoe is quite narrow at the toe so with big feet in length to dramatic width of the present teeners -----well we would not offer them knowing the teeners or parents would complain to us for selling them such shoes.

Eh? How do you know that just from this picture? Maybe the guy did his prep early on and is relaxing. The woman could be doing all her work at the last minute - or over-preparing.

That is one bank, out of a range of employers. This is a whole country where everyone dresses the same when they're applying for jobs, many continue this trend forever.

Black suit, white shirt, striped tie.

It's truly lamentable. No striped shirts, no pinks, blues, or other colours. No solid ties or striped suits. Many Japanese men wear suits, but look like cretins.

I'm sure glad that my job hunting days are well and truly over. Good luck to all of them in their job hunt especially in these hard times.

About the shoes, they really are that long. For some reason I don't quite understand, long shoes are "kakui" here. You see them all the time. And no, their feet are not that big.

So help me out, if someone just happens to leave their job in November, does the company wait until April to fill in that position? If they do, then either that position wasn't very vital or that company has way too many people on hand doing "busy work."

Some companies I know Major insurance, etc got some extremely strict dress and grooming codes.

Office lady here means a lot of stapling, putting papers in envelopes and of course serving tea, etc. Unless you get hired for a specific role in a company that will actually use you for it and even than ....

I think before the picture was taken they were making out and then when the photographer came, they quickly slid to opposite sides of the bench!

That’s what I was thinking. Then again that’s why the company I work for started using cognitive and ethical tests rather than interviews, people like me kept hiring on intuition and we were only right a quarter of the time.

Never actually interviewed for a job over here so I'm not really in the know about the differences but in Detroit, before aforementioned exams, when you made it to 3rd round of interviews it was all about force of personality. But I guess it depends on the job, I was initially hired as the traveling hatchet man, so I can see how that may end up scaring off a potential employer.

Just remember to be yourself kids... unless nobody likes you, then you can lie. Pretend to be more interesting until you get the job.

Its a sad reflection on this society that in spite of now being "graduates" and about to enter the work force to become 'shakai jin' they have to entertain the un written law of strictly black suits, white shirts no dyed hair and pony tail for the females... yes thats right folks, leave all individuality at home, resistance is futile.

Why should they have a job? Aren't they still in school? In fact, why are they even called 'graduates' in Japan when they start looking for jobs in their third year? Now... when they FINISH school, actually graduate, and start looking for jobs and can't find them... THEN I might agree with your sentiment.

Don't know if they are unhappy but they both look as they should: serious.

I should start a "recruit suit" company.
