Juno

"Juno" star Ellen Page, 21, poses with actress Satomi Ishihara, 21, in Tokyo. Ishihara, currently starring in a TV drama about an English teacher who can't speak much English, told Page in well rehearsed English that she would love to star in a Japanese remake of the Oscar-nominated movie about teenage pregnancy. "Juno" opens in Japan on June 14.

"An English teacher who cannot speak much English" -- so, obviously, this TV drama Ishihara is in is reality-based. And what is that black thing tied around her chest. I assume it is supposed to make it appear that she actually has breasts. Another silly, fluff Japan PR event.

Looks like reality-based programming has finally landed in Japan!

And is that the chick who played Juno? She looks way different than in the movie.

How come the Japanese stars always dress beautifully at these events and the foreign guests dress like they are just lounging around at home. You'd think their managers would advise them to dress nicely for their press conference in Japan.

Left girl is stunning, right girl looks like she had a botched eye job or something.

Japanese girl forgot to put her bra on first. She looks as intelligent as her outfit.

Both very beautiful and talented!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Both? Come on - the girl on the left is gorgeous! Miss Page must have been caught in an unflattering moment...

Oh and by the way - THANKS JT for finally giving us BIG pictures!

Satomi Ishihara is a perfect example of Japanese beauty.

Ellen Page is a perfect example why foreign guys here like Japanese women.

Satomi Ishihara- what a classically beautiful japanese women

June 12th? That's almost 9.5 months after the US. What took so long? It's getting harder and harder fight the urge to download movies for free when they come out so late here.

50s elegance vs 90s grunge!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'll take the one on the left.

They are the antithesis of two worlds and different likes. The actress of Juno is not Miss Universe but represented a smart inquisitive girl with singular personality. I laugh at guys here saying that Japanese women are all beauties. Maybe they have not met Italian or Spanish girls that rate 10 for me in normal places. For me they are the best sexy and smarter girls. I have not found this in Japan. I prefer Juno even if she is not a beautiful skeleton. Dolls with make up are not my preference.

Pathat nails it. Ishihara is much hottter than the usually JT fodder, or any of the Japan Miss Universes that blight these pages from time to time. Thanks for the big picutre, too, JT.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ishihara is stunning! I bet she has intelligence that matches, if not outdoes her looks.

Who's that standing next to her?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

May be they are standing on same platform but it appears to me that Ellen is taller than Satomi.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, but pathat did not "nail" anything, and probably hasn't in months. Ishihara is just one of 10,000 look-alike, Barbie-doll, hostess types you see on any given day here in Tokyo. Great eye candy, sure. But, they are all not even as "deep" as their make-up. They could replace her in this TV drama with any of a dozen other "actresses" and no one would know or care. Don't get me wrong, I love looking at beautiful J-ladies as much as anyone, but, on any scale that includes both looks and talent, Ms. Page wins in a land slide.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Jerseyboy - "Don't get me wrong."

Ehrr..you are wrong.

Sure there's hotties like the ones you describe, but then there's the hotties that many of us on JT are married to. If the latter were 'eye candy', I don't think there would be so many of us still here.

Oh, and don't get me wrong - I'm certain there's more than enough "eye candy," "actresses," and "Barbie-doll, hostess types" in your country, too.

But let's not criticize them because that would destroy your argument.

Pathat did, in fact, nail it.

Ellen Page looked quite nice all dressed up at the Academy Awards. I think one poster above explained it: she looks unattractive compared to Ishihara because of the way she dressed for the press conference. On the other hand, Ishihara in casual clothes would probably still look gorgeous.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hey, maybe she dressed up like she does in the movie!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ishihara in casual clothes, no make up and after a day of fighting terrorists and falling down elevator shafts would still look gorgeous.

Sarge - "Ishihara in casual clothes, no make up and after a day of fighting terrorists and falling down elevator shafts would still look gorgeous."

LOL! Quote of The Day! :-)

For any left in doubt over which beauty to do for, ask yourself which one would look better and younger in 20 years and is probably an excellent cook?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

jerseyboy: Sorry, but Ill take the endorsements of Nessie and Sushi over your criticisms. I nailed it, and Ill nail it again if I get the chance.

Ishihara is just one of 10,000 look-alike, Barbie-doll, hostess types you see on any given day here in Tokyo.

Ill take your 10,000 and raise you another 10,000. Id rather have more Barbie-Dolls than Broom Hilda foreign women lumbering around Tokyo.

on any scale that includes both looks and talent, Ms. Page wins in a land slide.

Nah, "Ms. Page" loses hands down.

She`d lose by a landslide if I asked the guys here to raise their hands to choose Satomi or Ellen, too.

Better keep those Western women off the scale anyway, jerseyboy. Their numbers keep going up and up.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

antizombie: Maybe I went a little overboard with the Broom Hilda comment. Unfortunately, we do not have "Lad" around to settle the matter for us.

Satomi Ishihara is a beautiful Japanese woman, and she is just one of a great many of Japanese beauties.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Guys, no use "debating" jerseyboy's choice. He knows that Ishihara looks way better but he comes up with this "talent" malarky to "pick" miss page. It's in his nature to always pick something that goes against beautiful Japanese women like Ishihara. And I wish people would stop with this "seen a million hotter Jp girl on a busy shibuya intersection" cliche. I've been to Japan several times and no way the average Jp woman looks anything like Ishihara.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ms. Ishihara is stunning.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I do not know both of these women. Who are they? Lol, sorry, but they are so mismatched. One is dressed for the Vienna ball and the other for the baseball game. Very bad photo.

Canadian chick loses hands dohwn.

Straight into the penalty box, eh.

Laters.

Beauty fades, Dumb is forever!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All this talk about which girl is more beautiful...I have to agree that both are mismatched dress wise, however, both have pretty facecs. I have been to Japan and Ishihara looks like your typical pretty Japanese girl. There is definitely a lot of bias here towards Japanese girls. I would guess that all you foreign men have a natural affinity towards things Japanese including the women so I would not say that your judgement is to say the least skewed. In todays "skinny" is the fashion word, Japanese girls fit perfectly because they are thin and not overly voluptuous. When they wear all types of fashion they look nice and not slutty because of their size. Along with their past I think that it is no wonder fashion is big in Japanese culture. I'd say both are pretty and both have flaws that none of us know about. Besides, most do not even look the same in person.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry...I meant..."I would say that your judgement here is skewed."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am not talking about which girl is beautiful, because I was just attacted by the girl on the left~

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Same thing!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the japanese girl just looks silly. and vapid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Juno needs to take some fashion lessons from her japanese counter part. MS ishihara is a beautiful work of art a tribute to how a female should look. Look at how her hair perfectly accents around her face. just enough lip stick on here perfect lips, and that dress hugs her perfectly shaped body. I guess I'm jaded. Comparing the two of these girls is just like comparing the Japanese cherry blossom sakura and the Canadian maple leaf. no comparison. Japan 1 Canada 0

The look on Ellen Page's face says: No-one told me it was a formal.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And any woman who'd wear what Ellen's wearing to a press event in Japan sure ain't no genius.

Dewd, she's dressed like her character in the movie. Made-up really differently though...

openyoureyes, you need to open your eyes.

rjd_jr...Sorry I did not respond ealier to your reply. But, I guess, unlike you, I actually have a life. In any case, I'm not the only poster who is not enamored by Ishihara. There are several who think as I do in fact: "beauty fades, dumb is forever", "looks like your typical pretty Japanese girl", and, "the Japanese girl just looks silly and vapid." Besides, as you admit, you have only "been to Japan", so your opinion is questionable anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Boioioionnnnng!!!

Blimey! What a corker. If it was this Ishihara who'd stolen the dosh from ShinGinko Tokyo, I might be more inclined to listen to the excuses. I'm sure we could come to some arrangement.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All these terrible comments, so nasty. Anyway it's not Ellen Page's fault I'm sure for dressing and looking the way she does. I think anyway. And I think we all know if we saw these two at a party which one we'd be all over. I'd ask the other one if she could be the designated driver.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Looking, no. God dealt her poor hand for a celeb. Dressing, yes. She's misplaying her hand. It's like she's playing

Juno has to be one of the worst movies for anyone in their teenage years to view. When it came up for Best Picture Oscar, I hoped and prayed that it wouldn't win, and glad it didn't. Moviesl ike this, that make such a deep impact -- or have the potential to -- and are basically encouraging teens to go out and have sex with whomever they want, and, when the consequences come knocking, thumb their noses at parents, as long as its "totally cool, because (they've) already found a couple who wants to adopt the baby..." What a travesty of a movie! I'm sorry that it ever came out, and became as succsseful as it became. I hope that this movie, and the actors and actresses that played in it, never have any success again. This movie will destroy the liveso f millions, and if it is ever remade, it will only cause harm and no good in any country where it is displayed...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I thought Juno was a very good movie and showed life as pretty much reality. do we really need another movie where she has the kid, gets married and lives happily ever after? is that what you want to see? if so, that is not real life.

some posters seem very bitter.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That ellen girl isnt neccesarily that bad looking, but damn Ishihara... WHo cares if shes silly and vapid? Yes, beauty fades, but luckily its last long enough to appreciate. Girl like that I imagine woiuld be hard to keep anyway, so you can just make the most before she withers.
