South Korean pop group Kara pose during their news conference in Tokyo on Tuesday. From left: Jiyoung, Nicole, Gyu Ri, Seung Yeon and Hara. Kara's first concert tour of Japan, which starts Saturday, takes in five cities — Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka — with two concerts at each venue. The group has appeared at live events many times in Japan, but they usually only sang one or two songs to promote CDs or to meet and greet fans.
The Japan tour is part of the group’s long-awaited Asia tour, titled “KARASIA,” which will also see the girls give concerts in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand.

Kara is the best group in Asia right now!! They are tremendously amazing in their singing, dancing and performance! The way that I see it, they are on a train headed for total success that is unstoppable. I wish them the very best in all that they will do throughout this whole year.

Asakara? (from morning?) more important matters to deal with !
Ben Jack
Very nice. I only wish their pants weren't so long.

(Note to self: Add Barbarella to Netflix queue.)

I just knew they were part of a vast alien conspiracy to conquer earth!!

Hmm which doesn't fit. I like all of the Korean names and then Nicole.
nath
Looks like they gained a bit of weight.
Tamarama
Good lord! Imagine how much better they would look...........dressed in something else.
nath
They need a new costume designer with a better understanding of inseam measurements.

Dammit I literally spat out some water laughing at the words "News conference".
JT getting back to basics with some eye candy to start the day.
Wakarimasen
K birds are lovely. And this type of group is essentially Asia's contribution to the world of music.
smithinjapan
Not their most flattering picture, but at least a real one (not all photoshopped). Good for Kara for doing so well.
papigiulio
kara is ok, girls generation looks much better though.
nath
Never heard of them, they need to show more skin.
papasmurfinjapan
I'm not sure what the hype about these girls is. The one on the far left looks like a man in drag. The other four are okay but I see better looking women every day on the train. I guess they can sing catchy tunes??
nath
It always makes me laugh that one of the biggest complaints I hear concerning western attitudes to Asia and Asians is that objectify, sexualize and trivialize the whole Asian experience.
I ask, why should the West do any differently, when all we get from Asia, culturally in the 21st Century, is bubble gum pop, sang by dancing robots dressed in sexy attire?
Oh.. I forgot to mention manga........my mistake,,,,,
Riffraff
........at least they will go back to Korea, we are stuck with AKB48

This is something that mystifies me about this place. You get an act whose sole selling point is it's a bunch of sexy birds.
Then you dress them up in unflattering, desexualised outfits and have them make insipid, babyish poses devoid of any inkling of womanhood.
And somebody gets paid a shedload of cash for the way they "managed" the artists.
Just once I wish the Japanese media machine would try something that works elsewhere too, like - oh I don't know, just off the top of my head - oiled up a bit so they're looking sweaty and passionate, or a bit of black leather seems to go a long way, something that would sell and not render these very rattleworthy wenches into vapid, wearisome effigies of kawaii with a very limited shelf life.
That way they might shift a bit of merchandise elsewhere in the world and have something to brag about. Beyonce was only about 16 when she started out, and I very much doubt she'd be revelling in the megastardom she currently - and rightfully - enjoys if she'd gone the cutesy-pie route.

Goldmember likes this.

I'll take the one in the middle who ate lunch. I don't care for undernourished women. I'm sure they will give a good concert despite the language barrier. Much better than AKB48 by far.
Dragoncloud64
Yeah, what are they, 100 pounds now? Time to get back on that diet!
Bluebris
Nice to see ladies with actual thighs, as opposed to the pencils so many J-Poppers carry themselves about on!
Foxie
If there were J-girls posing, we would see V- signs. Kara's members look healthy and good. Too bad about those ugly costumes diminishing their beauty. Way to go!
Nicky Washida
These girls actually CAN sing and dance, and perform really well. I love their video for "Mister" and my sons hoikuen class doing a dance to that song last year including the hip-wiggling bit was quite the cutest thing I have ever seen!
I think they have maybe put on a tiny bit of weight since that video but so whaT? they needed to and they still look great. I LOVE their costumes though - not just in this pic but in general. Their costume designer deserves an award - very reminiscent of an early Destinys Child and not a sailor girl suit in sight. I wish them well and am happy my daughter prefers them to AKB.
that korean guy
yawn...

Another boring produced pop bad. Yippie.....
tkoind2
band. Freudian slip "bad"

5, 4, 1, 3, 2. Please more pics of these girls, JT - it's what us JTers want!
incognito12
And the question is are they a singing group or a dance troupe? I think they spread themselves too thin- it's hard to peg them as real singers. They are more like entertainers- not that there is anything wrong with that.
Wakarimasen
JT - we want a picture of the North Korean version of this great band.
gogogo
eye candy only
kurisupisu
Very nice.....

T-ara and Kara.................thank you Korea.
valmach
Hotties - x 5 .. I have got to get back to Asia.. damn!
incognito12
I stand corrected. I was thinking of SNSD- they are the dance troupe. Kara is fine.
tkoind2
I am sure there are a lot of people out there who with the same production work by a producer would sound and dance just as well as these canned acts do.
Gurukun
LOL! That was funny!
nath
J-Pop, K-Pop... nothing but musical armageddon.

wtfjapan
need Kara & AKB48 best 5 in a mud wrestling competition, be much better to watch than hearing them sing!?
wherewaterflos
evidently each member isn't allowed to share the same hair color. btw korean women are so much hotter than j girls
The Munya Times
Not my type of girls and entertainment but I am glad to see they look pretty and mostly healthier than the skeleton supermodels and hopefully can encourage young girls to have healthier idols and look and be healthy instead of falling sick in anorexia.
tomatoflight
Wow... stunning.
tmarie
Horrific outfits!
In terms of K-pop and who is best, 2NE1 is amazing. (Sad that I will admit that, I know!)

Thanks to plastic surgery.
Without it they're the missing link between man and a pekinese.
oginome
Wow, I agree with you. That doesn't happen often :)
wherewaterflos
your not telling me that Kara's woman-like hips are made of plastic are you? they make most j-females over 20 look like underfed pre-teens, and they don't have the ultra high pitch fake baby voice. just saying i love women not girls.
Darren White
would! would! would! would! would!
gyouza
kurazy!
Andrew Decena
New hairstyles and make-up I see...
Serrano
Their shorts are all the same style, but their tops are all different styles, I like the top in the middle the best.
Serrano
No one else thinks the top on the middle girl is the best?
The shorts on the girl second from the right are a bit too high - can't see her bellybutton!
Serrano
OK, if the top on the girl in the middle isn't the best, which one is?
I also love the gold boots!
