I think they should have chosen kendo or use Kyokushin rule.

After judo and wrestling, this seems like a bore.

A poser sport.

It was a bore - in a 3 min match, they spent 90% of it just bouncing up & down.

@tooheysnew: they spent 90% of it just bouncing up & down.

That is so true and so funny :)

Japan is better at wrestling and judo than karate.

After this Olympics, Japan should do some soul searching, maybe switch to entire Kyokushin instead of this vanilla shotokan.

@Iron Lad

switch to entire Kyokushin

Kyokushin is Korean. This is why it's not included in WKF Karate.

Kyokushin was born in Japan.

We have a friendly relationship with JKF.

"Kyokushin is Korean."

Then Basketball is Canadian, given that James Naismith was a Canadian.

More pathetic distorted history on display, as per usual.

How surprising!

WKF doesn't recognize Kyokushin as Karate. As far as WKF is concerned, Kyokushin is a non-Karate to be grouped with Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, etc.

The styles recognised by the WKF are Goju-ryu, Shito-ryu, Shotokan and Wado-ryu.

Karate: Who hugs the other faster? I watched a few bouts - boring doesn't even start describing them...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I mean... Even kyokushin bouts are boring (no punching in the head), very seldom usage of legs, if ever, but I'm not really sure how to describe whatever they were doing there...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Can't cast any votes, only practised wadoryu...

The "Kata" seems to be a kabuki inspired dance and the "fighting"..... I use the word very loosely, was the most disappointing event I've seen...Zzz No wonder its already been dropped for the next Olympics.
