Gonna need those more than ever now

THIS is what the government sees as a way out of their economic mess, get into the business of killing people.

Those missiles are used for defense against incoming missiles, not for attack

America's money machine. They need to "wage" war all over to keep the weapons industry going and more cash flowin.

These missiles look like toys.

oftopico, wait until it lands on your head.

The US is the leading producer of Arms - by far.

That means that it's the country that produces the largest quantity of machines and apparatus to KILL PEOPLE.

Does that make you proud, Land of the "Free?"

oftopico: These missiles look like toys.

They ARE toys.

Lengths of actual missiles:

PAC-3: 5.8 m / 19 ft

THAAD length: 6.17 m / 20.2 ft

Not a massive weapons aficionado or connoisseur but still find missiles and advanced weapons in general fascinating.

Freedom is not free

"A witty saying proves nothing"

turbotsat

Those are the final stage projectiles that are going to slam into a missile WITHOUT the first and second stage rocket boosters.

The length and size of the final stage is small in comparison.

No it doesn't! But it sure seems to be an incitement for some people's hidden anti-Americanism. And it's that sort of heartburn that makes me proud.

Sad the world's biggest economy relies on so-called defense, and Abe is intent on following suit.

Highly distasteful, and not what Brand Japan is all about.

What are these!? Missiles for ants!!??

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Completely disgusting. Keeping war around because it is a business and it will give some a chance for an excuse to be able to partake in it again.

Freedom is not free very true, Out of all the FREE democratically elected countries, America has the highest adult incarceration rate of about 1%. Statistically speaking the "land of the free" has the least amount of free people.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Freedom is not free

Not with a military-industrial complex to feed.

It doesn't appear so. Here is a graphic of the THAAD missile including the booster and the kinetic kill vehicle: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wfm_thaad_diagram.svg

The graphic says the kill vehicle length is 1.975 m. Comparing it to the THAAD model in the photo above, the model includes the booster (orange tube, etc.) and the Kinetic Kill Vehicle (pointy thing with clear plastic cutouts to show the KKV innards). Not just the KKV by itself. The PAC-3 models are probably similar (KKV has cutouts, booster doesn't).

But who has the biggest, hardest, thrustiest freedom?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Highly distasteful, and not what Brand Japan is all about.

What is Brand Japan? Is that a fancier phrase for "Cool Japan"?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What is Brand Japan?

A country heretofore (from the latter half of the 20th century) known for not profiting from the death and destruction of war.

Pretty Cool in my books.

Mr. Noidall,

it sure seems to be an incitement for some people's hidden anti-Americanism.

I am not at all anti-American. I have many very dear American friends. And there is much about American culture I respect and admire. Particularly the craft beer.

It's just that politically the US in recent years has been going down the wrong road.

Greed has taken over from freedom. Friendliness has given way to military might. The American dream has turned into the American nightmare.

And the photograph above epitomises this.

Note the wiki article (or somewhere else I read) says the THAAD KKV has no booster of its own, only attitude control jets and gyros for final post-separation trajectory adjustment to meet target. Don't know if PAC-3 has a second-stage booster.
