Shouldn't art project be in quotation marks?

'pretty sad, this trend... what, have no friends to take photos of you? So you tie a camera on a stick?
sigh.

ask somebody to take picture for you as a human being at least we can do a little bit for each other, you say thank you, you exchange smile and some time a conversation.

"what, have no friends to take photos of you?"
Quite possibly. Personally, I love traveling solo b/c I so rarely have the chance. But, as Ali said, I tend to just ask someone, yes, even a total stranger, to take my photo. On occasion, this has even led to, gasp, conversation.
All that technology packed into that little phone and Googling "German for can you take my photo?" never crossed her mind.

Though, in this case she clearly did have someone take her photo for her, since we are not looking at the selfie, are we. In fact:

One good thing for the "rat" Mickey and his empire, they have banned the selfie-stick at their parks citing safety reasons. At one park a ride was stopped at the top of the roller coaster because some idiot whipped out a selfi-stick and wanted to take a picture. Can you imagine the damage an object like that could cause if he let go and it flew into the person behind him or on the tracks where it could derail the next car?
As others have said, interact and ask someone to take a picture for you. Just my preference.

First, that's a pretty clever art project, and a great replica of the BG. So high marks to her for being creative and politically aware.
I love traveling alone also, but I don't take many photos of myself because I'm not that vain. Also, I don't trust people. They might run away with my camera, a la "National Lampoon's European Vacation."

Selfie-stick ... one step further toward human isolation. and it always looks re-tarded.

Wasn't there a meme predating the common commercial selfie-stick? I remember it was a pic of a solo female traveler using her own wooden homemade stick to photograph herself at a sightseeing spot.
