But can it detect nerve gas? As I far as I remember the only terror attack that has occurred on the Tokyo subway involved plastic bags filled with liquid.

How does detecting electromagnetic waves assist security? Does it detect metal? Explosives/ Gas? Liquids like acid and similar?

Which was carried out by a domestic Japanese cult that has been dealt with. This is preparation for hundreds of thousands of new foreign visitors who might be capable of anything, not just the one type of attack that occurred before.
