Lookout

Local residents look up at the sky Saturday outside the Ground Self-Defense Force's Araya base where the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missiles are set in Akita. Northern prefectures have armed forces, police and fire brigade staff on stand by and the military has missile interceptors poised on warships and air force bases to shoot down any errant parts of a rocket soon to be launched by North Korea.

BurakuminDes,

BTW, it's not "anti-American" to want to avoid being caught up in hysteria and believing out and out lies.

You're right. That, however, has nothing to do with what I was saying. It is anti-American to assert US weapons are anything less than 100% effective.

If you're so confident that they're not, put yourself in front of one. Let us know how that turns out for you.

Moderator: Back on topic please.

They are 100% effective. Reports to the contrary have been propagated by anti-Americans

Ah, sure, we believe you, Uncle Sam, as do all who watch reputable news networks such as FOX. Do a bit of research and you will find they were actually closer to 0 percent effective in the first Bush War of Terror. BTW, it's not "anti-American" to want to avoid being caught up in hysteria and believing out and out lies.

As I previously stated: No PAC-3 missile would be fired from Japan...and I was spot on.

So...is it over?

"They are 100% effective. Reports to the contrary have been propagated by anti-Americans."

Classic! And anyone who suggests they might not work here are 'anti-American Japan-bashing Pro-North Koreans,' I suppose. Funny as usual.

These old codgers are just bored.

Maybe for some people who believe the tv, these a dramatic times. However, the situation became rather funny because the Japanese government overdid it with the propaganda.

the Americans were claiming they were 99 percent effective, or some such nonsense

I don't think Japan is in the business of making missiles and weapons, just borrowing them. But if Im wrong I will stand corrected.

Japan doesn't "borrow" its weaponry, it either imports them, produces locally under license, or produces its own domestic products. The only thing it doesn't do is export its weaponry.

Such faith for Japanese manufactured hardware.

I think you will find these duds are made in the US. I don't think Japan is in the business of making missiles and weapons, just borrowing them. But if Im wrong I will stand corrected.

BTW Ultrashaman, all the Japanese I know are not "scared" by this whole beat-up, even the older ones I know are laughing it off (and I live in Northern Japan). Gaijin seem more worried! I repeat: No PAC-3 missile will be fired from Japan. Nothing to see here, move along.

The whole thing is just a rally-call for the desperate right-wingers in Japan attempting to salvage something from the upcoming election, along the lines of "let's promote anti-Kita Chosen hysteria to whip the masses into a frenzy of fear, and they might forget our corruption and mismanagement of the economy".

Because there has never been a threat made by North Korea towards Japan nor have there ever been a missle launched over Japan. Is it impossible for people to be scared not from racism, but because they care about their home?

These are just a group of old train spotters looking for a change. It would be the same in any country.

As ken_chan suggested, it isn’t often anyone gets to see missiles fired under a peaceful sit back & watch the fireworks type situation.

Maybe they are like me, want to see the Pac-3 fired. Must be cool

Actually ken chan, it's a "patriot" missile (or an updated version of the ones they attempted to use in the first gulf war). Turned out to be a dud. At the time, the Americans were claiming they were 99 percent effective, or some such nonsense. Just typical of the lies those Bush inbreds used to spin whilst promoting their Wars Of Terror, and morons who watched FOX News believed them. I expect these ones would be duds too! lol lol

Seriously, Japan will not even attempt to shoot anything down (if NK even manages to launch anything). The whole thing is just a rally-call for the desperate right-wingers in Japan attempting to salvage something from the upcoming election, along the lines of "let's promote anti-Kita Chosen hysteria to whip the masses into a frenzy of fear, and they might forget our corruption and mismanagement of the economy".

to shoot down any errant parts of a rocket soon to be launched by North Korea

First of all, won't the parts fall down by themselves, without having to be shot down?

ANd secondly, what happened to Japan caring about ecology and the environment? I'm sure this is adding a huge amount to their carbon footprint!

Muzukashiku kangaeruna ! Don't take this matter too seriously !

For I minute I thought this WAS Japan's self-defense force! No wonder a rocket was wrongly reported as being launched.

If this is Japan's first line of defence....boy, things are looking grim!
