A van belonging to a right-wing activist group, bearing Japan's national flags, drives near the Russian Embassy in Tokyo on Friday to demand that Russia return a group of islands, called Northern Territories by Tokyo and Southern Kuriles by Moscow, ahead of the arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

See the HUGE colored areas on this map (minus the red owned by Japan in 1870)?:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/65/Japanese_Empire2.png
Those are the areas Japan conquered during WWII (and in the runup to whatever dividing date you favor).
See those little, teeny, tiny, pink dots in the very far upper right corner of the map?
Those are the Kurils that Japan is complaining about now.

Serrano: "Oh, I forgot, might makes right!"
Certainly makes it right with Japanese revisionists who claim the islands are still theirs, doesn't it? not to mention the 'defending of Asia' when they murdered 10 million.
No, I never said it makes it right; I said it makes it theirs. And as long as it keeps being theirs, and they live and and administer them (the latter being Japan's claim to the Senkakus, and the reason in their mind "there is no dispute"), the world more and more recognizes that. They refuse to get two back, despite the Japanese "two-plus-alpha" rationale they tried to pedal off on the public, and so they will forever have none. It truly is no longer a dispute.

Good try! They likes driving a hearse with a dead body outside, I mean their political slogans printed on the vehicle.

Shouldn't the fool be all anti-Western and write on his li'l truck from right to left and not the Western way?
Well,on THIS li'l truck of theirs, everything reads from left to right (the "correct" way.) LOL
Schopenhauer
They pretend to be a rightist group but they are not. Most of them are yakuza groups. They extort money from corporations and politicians finding weaknesses of them.

Serrano: "When are the Russians going to return the islands they stole in 1945?"
They didn't steal them. They conquered them. Besides, if you want to insist they were "stolen" then don't forget to point out Japan did the same not too terribly long before.

.LIke US/China/SK do.
wtfjapan
When are the Russians going to return the islands they stole in 1945? when Putin is satisfied hes milked Japan for all the financial and political concessions he can possibly get, and not a second before.

Looks like that photo is taken in the "great" Roppongi, (sign on shuto expressway) but of course the embassies are mostly in Minato-ku

Neither have I. Not a single one. There's a reason they hide behind the tinted windows or threaten in packs behind megaphones.

We get these nutcases in Okinawa too. Running around Kencho screaming about the approaching Chinese invasion.
Idiots!

Free speech, yes! However, hate speech is illegal! I've listened to what these loons go on about and seen a few of their curb-side performances. Right-wing does not fully describe what these twits go on about. They are closer to neo-nazi fascists. It's very odd for Japan to pass a law banning hate speech, but they leave this organization to carry on regardless.

Goes to prove it takes a thug to know a thug. The toxic political ideologies and beliefs of the extreme right wing share the same nationalist xenophobia irrespective of borders.
bones
So these clowns can drive around blasting their loud speakers even past police stations, but let me turn my stereo up by a few decibels and they wanna give me a ticket for disturbance!
Outrider
Free speech in Japan? I suggest you try a little experiment. You try driving around blaring your message like they do. Or, try any non-right wing group in Japan, and see what happens.
papigiulio
I wonder if the government will do something about them during the Olympics. Either way, they are like barking dogs and barking dogs don't bite.
dcog9065
They're lucky there's free speech in this country. If they did that in Putin's Russia they would have been locked up and killed by now

Best of luck with that. Send Putin himself out, a proper thug, to have a little chat with these people while he's here.

They were all stopped right outside my office for 20-30 mins. I believe they were doing noise measurements, actually saw pushing and shoving with the police and a few members.
Aly Rustom
Reckless, I believe I owe you an apology for the comment I made before:
No they're not mate. Those black trucks are controlled by the LDP as well as the other ult right political parties and OF COURSE Nippon Kaigi. They do as their paymasters tell them. Mark my words- the Uyoku will be on their best behavior because this is Abe's personal party.
you were right..
Or join the SDF. They need recruits. But nooooo. Never. Never met a rightwinger who wasn't a coward at heart. They're all tough in their vans or behind their computers or when they're screaming at korean elementary school children, but if they were in a real gunfight to protect Japan they would drop their guns, scream, cry, and run away like the wimpy spoiled brats they are.
smithinjapan
Maybe with the potential for straining international relations the police might actually do something about these louts. Along with the hate speech they love to shout out, surely there are some noise violations they break constantly -- aside from the "wa" and all that.
