I got a picture of this guy, up close and personal, and although I appreciate the purpose behind zoos, I still don't like seeing beautiful animals like this kept in cages. That said, one of my greatest pleasures is seeing the phalanxes of awed and smiling children with their teachers or other caretakers taking tours of them. Suppose I'm just a hypocrite.

I've been to Ueno Zoo. You don't need to look far to find stressed and depressed animals. Such a sad state of affairs

One of my favourite everyday sights in Japan is the many ways rocks are arranged - even in gorilla enclosures!

I hate primate keeping zoos, and I'm teaching my children to hate them as well. Humans aren't that much smarter than gorillas...
