I have been. It has great food.

Even after being here close to 20 years I still don’t understand why people wait in line for ages in all sorts of weather when they could get something just as good around the corner without the wait

Herd mentality and plenty of time to waste

Nailed it.

This is what happens when you spent your life being told what to do.

No independent thinking at all.

Once the next big thing restaurant has appeared on TV this one Weill have tons of vacant chairs.

Japanese people line up for quality food and it was fun for me to chat with my friends while waiting and then, finally, to dig into something really good.

I rarely line up like this, even for really good places.

If I see a line going out the door, I wait for their slow times and go back then, if I'm interested.

Tell me about it.

People queuing more than an hour today for our tofu dishes, when they're probably only on an overnight trip from the mainland.

Not complaining,mind you!

The rucksacks probably contain filming gear for social media.

For a well established restaurant a long line to me means it has good food. For a new shop it could just be a fad.

Waiting time - 30 mins

Eating time - 20 mins

I'd rather sit for 50 mins.

I've not been but this is an oyako-don place.

Personally I would not call it a "chicken restaurant", because the success or failure of oyako-don will lie in how well the egg is cooked. The key to their popularity will be how set the egg is and how it is flavoured with dashi. As with omurice, custard, creme brulee, eggs benedict etc., eggs are a fine test of cooking skill. You have to very precise to consistently achieve certain textures.

For me, a chicken restaurant would be somewhere selling fried chicken or wings.
