This kind of inane rubbish is precisely what gives critics of the UN so much ammunition.

I agree totally. Support for the Myanmar government?! Is Taro Kono stoned? The Myanmar government is guilty of the current genocide against the Rohingya people! The Myanmar regime is committing 'ethnic cleansing' against that group, and they sure ain't going to be repatriating the very people that they are harassing, raping, kicking out of their homes, and murdering. The Rohingya have been officially 'noncitizens' since 1962 when the nation was called Burma. The UN needs to impose full economic sanctions on Myanmar. That's the only sane way this crap can be stopped. Sanctions placed on South Africa finally led to the end of apartheid in that country (notice that this is a Mandela peace summit here). Sanctions slapped on Libya led to Moammar Qaddafy repatriating the survivors of his evil terror acts of the 70s and 80s.

Myanmar has a totalitarian government with one of the worst human rights record in the world and it ain't going to stop its evil abuses until it is forced to stop. This notion of 'international support for the Myanmar government so it can accelerate the repatriation of Rohingya' that are fleeing a crackdown that Myanmar is initiating is nothing but a joke. Myanmar needs punitive sanctions imposed on its government. Safeguarding the UN Human Rights Treaty and the Geneva Convention one of the functions of the UN, isn't it?
