Scary!
herefornow
It may be just me, but it seems it is mainly the less-attractive gals who seem to go in for these more radical fashion styles.
noirgaijin
Scary when they never grow out of this phase in their life and continue to dress this way well into thier 40s, yuck! Bottom right is not that bad.
tigris
Isn't that Marui YOUNG? Marui ONE closed 2004.
HonestDictator
Duuude. Well, these folks certainly aren't model material except #2 top and #1 bottom can pull it off without totally negating the getup. I'll never make fun of goth models in the US and UK again... For now heh

Desperate to be different.

I feel sure that any opinion expressed here is going to really worry these girls. They are all young girls enjoying themselves. Those of you that are old enough to have a past try remembering how you dressed. Some old photos posted here of our main contributors might give the rest of us sleepless nights. Maybe JT could do something like that, allowing anybody who has the courage to post his or her old photos, that really would be both fun & interesting. I, however, would not be able to take part; all pictures of me were destroyed in a fire about ten years ago. Sorry….
meanmutha
which ones are guys?

Is number 2 top a male or female?

Well done these to these kids for expressing themselves. I know most posters on this site come from a different country but judging by some comments a lot of them come from a different time;
etc. I'm surprised they don't complain about crazy beatniks with their elecrtic guitars. There are similar posts every time JT features a photo of young people with styles that differ from the mainstream. I wonder if such posters are from the USA cos whenever I've been in Harajuku on a Sunday afternoon it seems to be Americans who are staring at the goths and exclaiming "oh my gawd!" while Europeans pass by with scarcely an amused glance. Interesting cultural difference...

It's a freak show!

The photo is a joke, isn't it? I feel weird to go to Marui. I would change the way when I saw one of them.

Lower left is scary!

Great ... girls with built on birth control devices.

Second from the left, bottom row is cute.

"Desperate to be different."
at the same time anyone can join the club if they produce themselves in the exact same fashion. and hence be the same, lol
Chloroform
AH! They're all so gorgeous. <3 I love it!

Love mouth piercing! Where can I get one? Actually, this photo reminds me of a story regarding designer babies yesterday. Wouldn't you just love one these kids sitting on your sofa at home! Imagine if your own kids brought one home and introduced them as a fiance. All in all, this is an advertisement for national service if ever I have seen one.
bigwave
aikisako,
You would be referring to the "conforming nonconformists"...."We're rebels! How can you tell? We look exactly like every other rebel!"
As Pete Townsend said "It's easy to see that you are one of us. Ain't it funny how we all seem to look the same."
PaizuriSan
1) How old r they? 2) I truly believe that there are only 2 different people here. 3) They are trying to be what, exactly? It doesnt matter how many times you put on a mask; your the same person boring person underneath. 4) I bet they dont have Friends and love every second of it! 5) With characters like this who probably dont know y they r doing these things, it's no wonder Japan is so underpopulated. I wouldnt waste my time with these girls...and I am not picky!Q
Wottock_Hunt
Third one along, bottom row. Roughly how many times per day do you reckon she pretends to be surprised by something, and squeak, with little pin-step stamps of her feet to express it?
What's the hygiene aspect of lip-piercing? It can't be good for you, surely? Any posters ever kissed a girl with one of these in? Can't imagine it's much fun.

Japanese all dress the same => the JT public complains
Japanese dress differently => the JT public complains

no, no, no, maybe, no, maybe no, maybe.

The step before being recruited as the next generation of hostesses in the fetish clubs of roppongi.

Bottom left looks like something out of an Aphex Twin video.

Looks like a pedo catalogue.

bottom row #2....YES! Cute!
gamera
I'll take the lower left onegaishimasu.
Wakarimasen
Nice. and the reason why the next generation of nihonjin will not be drones like the last. Which is also nice.
nath
****Bottom right has fox potential. I want to see her in a goth mini-skirt
jonnyboy
however they dress, you can guarantee their sempai still treats them like dirt
Nessie
MrHog nails it. But...how does he know?
aikisako
bigwave, nice to hear it from the Who.
Wottock_Hunt
I thought bottom right looks a bit gloomy. I told her to keep her chin up.

It is easy to belong to this or that group, but the point is what are you apart from them? If you cannot be yourself some stupid mask will not help you anyway.
zaboomba
Yes, what are you?
poshdrivel
Good lord, I won't be shopping here anytime soon ! Yuk !
injapan
jesus, you all are pretty lame. this is japanese culture, for kids to dress in this fashion. kids in america do it too, they just look a little different. who cares what someone wears? at least they are not boring like you.
Triumvere
Can't say I care for they hair-cut, but No. 2 has some serious potential.
memyselfI
" Are you a Philosopher ? Yes, I think very deeply. " EXPRESS YOURSELF JAPAN. Let these children be themselves. Who cares. They are just alienated youth. Did you get a weird hair cut when you were a teenager ? I am not an conservative. I am a Super Duper Liberal. Let these kids express themselves.
LoveUSA
I do not think they are expressing themselves, they belong to a group where everybody does the same. I have seen many look exactly like this, so the fashion quickly turns from original to boring. When somebody introduces a fashion trend, everybody rushes to be the same, I think in Japan this is more expressed than elsewhere. I think most of these people do not fit in their workplace or school so they join a group of outcasts.

Much the same as you then. Read all the above. Now I am sure you feel much less isolated sitting in front of your computer alone.

'tis a bit creepy, but gothic's all about blackliciousness. oh well.

Why do you say that? This kind of nonsense has been going one for about twenty years now. While it's somewhat more extreme, there have been folks on the fringe of Japanese society (particularly in Tokyo) for hundreds of years.
nath
yeah i like it, japanese rock and japanese gothic i mean japanese lifestyle is the real gothic in the world they are cool.
