Wow. Check that out.

Wait a minute. What's the first word there on the banner? The word before "americans". All I could make out is the letter- E.

They are Americans? Then what's their beef? They should be protesting against American militarism.

How do you know they don't?

Googled it. The full banner reads "CHINESE AMERICANS AGAINST REVIVING MILITARISM BY ABE"

The missing word at the front of the banner was "Chinese" http://www.dingding.tv/bbs/read.php?tid=12537

So....you know.

I count three, but maybe the photographer was also one of the CROWD.

That would explain the hanzi (kanji) at the top.

It's a smart ploy when you think about it. Use actions 70 years ago to weaken a potential opponent's position.

At the same time, it's incredibly stupid when people buy into it, assuming they're being honest about their own intentions. One has to wonder how many people join a mob to benefit themselves, as opposed to those who believe in what they are doing.

I count three, but maybe the photographer was also one of the CROWD.

I imagine the local police will have their hands full with this massive and unprecedented turnout of demonstrators.

I may be blind but where is Abe's revived militarism? I don't see tanks parading around the Imperial Palace on any news reports. No carrier battle groups sailing off to butt heads over the disputed islands. No squadrons of fighters zooming across the sky trailing smoke while Abe salutes them.

That's China!

I'm reading my way through Jung Chang's biography of Mao Tse-tung at the moment. Here's a good quote from early on:

"Fish heads were Mao's favorite morsel, and were said to enhance the brain. During the day he sat by his window reading English out loud in his heavy Hunan accent, to the amusement of friends. This stumbling performance, without really striving for progress, was a kind of relaxation for Mao."

I'm guessing that compared to what comes later in the book, munching fish heads will seem insignificant.

CGB Spender: "They are Americans? Then what's their beef? They should be protesting against American militarism."

Because we know YOU never complain, nor have the right to (according to your own 'logic'), about something not from your home nation.

Reformedbasher: "It's a smart ploy when you think about it. Use actions 70 years ago to weaken a potential opponent's position."

The idea of it being such a 'ploy' would only fly if the majority of Japanese in Japan also did not feel the same way. So what's your excuse for them protesting what Abe is doing?

Breaking the law.... braking the law.... Breaking the law, breaking the law...

Japan has every right to become to become a strong country which cannot be equated with reviving militarism as no nation can maintain and protect peace by remaining weak in present environment.

BI Sharma,

Militarism does not create peace, look at the mess the US has created in the Middle East as an example of this.

hey wroteT in Chinese and English, It will not go on news in USA

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The ironic part is these "Americans" are less welcome in the USA than Abe.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@Bertie. The ME has been a mess since biblical times.

Should it matter that the US armed Sadam while Iraq and Iran waged war on each other? Or when the US armed Afghan to counter the russians? Everyone keeps changing sides all the time, fun & games. Politics=Power.

This only advertize in USA that Chinese (in Calif) are paranoia of Japan. Don't blame then, USA defearted Japan but China never could handle Japanese in China,

0 ( +1 / -1 )

During Japan's bubble, lots of Japanese influence in CA.

Not anymore. All China now. Looks like China is handling their matters just fine now. My, my, my, -how the tables have turned.

One day servant. Next day master. What happened to Japan?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Judging from the Chinese that's written, I'd say the protesters could be from Hong Kong and/or Taiwan. Yeah, terrible things happened in HK too.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The U.S.-Japan cooperation will move from being locally focused to globally focused, and of course that's completely appropriate given the way the world has changed since few decades ago.

Wow...all this for one insignificant picture?

-Are you referring to the traditional script (as opposed to the simplified scripts used in Mainland)? It's either you're correct, or maybe they got educated in the US, since Chinese schools in the US teach in traditional, I think.

hey wroteT in Chinese and English, It will not go on news in USA

-Just like Abe's congressional speech.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Can not fault them on the militarism part of their protest. I do not like the road Abe and the LDP is sending Japan. We need to learn from our past.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

YuriOtani-san,

We need to learn from our past.

Of course, unfortunately Abe is stuck in the past and is incapable of learning anything.

He is not in the real world.

He is trying to appease the ghost of his grandfather, a war criminal who somehow wormed his way out of punishment.

What a load of anti-American BS. There are approximately 4 million Chinese Americans with US citizenship. We've had Chinese American Senators, Congressmen, Cabinet Officers, and Generals. No president yet, but someday... who knows? I doubt if you could make such a statement about many other nations. This is not to deny the persistence of racism in the US - but we're hardly unique in that regard. If anything, racial issues are merely more visible because our history of of slavery and being an immigrant nation forces us to confront them. The idea that Chinese Americans are, in general, not welcome here or are somehow not "Americans" is nonsense.
