Midtown Christmas

Some 280,000 LEDs create a space journey on a 2,000-square-meter area at Tokyo Midtown. The illumination lasts until Dec 25.

The illumination lasts until Dec 25.

I assume the pic of the day will continue to be these illuminations until then.

JT should ask Dentsu to revise its "hit products list "and bring LED lights to the top.

It's just not Christmas in blue LED...

Nice try. Very pretty.

And given that Roppongi often turns into to a thug-infested, sleazy, ugly street scene within seconds, or should I say within steps, of whoosits Mori's assorted Expo-esque attempts to gentrify the area, the place truly needs all the help it can get. Nice to see this non Christian country gets a bit of the message of Christmas, and lucky for them Christianity isn't Islam, as with this kind of blithe, cheeky redeployment featuring fake places of prayer everywhere for commercial gain, were they fake mosques there'd be bombs galore, I suspect.

The light people who selected the grays and blues along Keiyakizaka also did a nice job making that dully swank street a bit livelier.

Has anyone noticed that Christmas decor here gets dismantled at midnight on December 25th? A testimony to its lack of deep roots and to the deity of commercialism, as people and businesses get ready for O-shogatsu and couldn't be bothered with anymore Christmas stuff.

You really need to study your history of Christmas before you start blathering on about any message of Christmas. Christmas in Japan is what it is, a season of lights, KFC, cake, and humongous socks filled with candy, date night on the 24th, and time spent with families.

Nothing religious about it, just the commercialized fun. Christmas Japanese style, it's great the way it is.

Have to agree with this one.

Mitsui Midtown. They can illuminate 2,000 square metres with 280,000 LED's. But they can't evacuate Midtown Tower in an emergecy nor manage a live earthquake drill correctly..

Exactly, just like Halloween, Valentine and any other celebration. I really don't understand why some people complain so much about a "commercialized Christmas". Just ENJOY the festivity people. Go to church if that is what you feel you have to, but let others enjoy it the way they feel like (a.k.a. stop complaining already).

Really nice picture. Might be going down to Tokyo Mid Town with my camera this weekend.

Iceshoecream.....and Antonios...and to whomever else thinks the same way!

Merry Christmas, (bit early) Japanese style or what ever style you believe in. Have fun and enjoy the lights!

What the happened to the shortage of electricity. The only place that an illumination should happen is in Kobe. How quickly everyone forgets Kobe and Fukushima is forgotten. Maybe that is good because memories are more important . Let's hope all the postings about whatever happened in the early 1900 can be remembered. Let's move on NK, SK and C.

I doubt that many people are left alive from early 1900. Please share with us what you know about that era with which you are talking about. Roughly Meiji 30 nen or so?
