Newly crowned Miss Universe Japan Hiroko Mima, left, poses with current Miss Universe Riyo Mori after the finals in Tokyo on Thursday night. Mima, a 22-year-old student from Tokushima, beat out nearly 4,000 applicants this year and will represent Japan at the Miss Universe pageant in Vietnam in July. The 173-cm-tall Mima excels in the high jump and Awa Odori dance.

As beautiful as she is, I don't think Japan will win this year. Mori and Chibana are much better looking.

She needs to change her hairstyle, that's for sure. As it is now, we can't see her eyebrows.

"Mima excels in the high jump and Awa Odori dance"

I love the Awa Odori dance.

My money's on Miss Vietnam, whatever she looks like.

eastokyo - Vietnam's only hosting the 2008 Miss Universe pageant - there isn't any Miss Vietam, if you can believe that.

Still waiting for the Miss Ukneeverse Competition.

Somehow the teeth of the woman on the left look a little bit fake.

I agree with Sarge her hair looks horrible.

Remember last year when everyone was bitching about how "Gyaru" Riyo Mori looked...

She'a Boot.

And Mori isn'T looking too hot without the lights and camera angles.

Why don't genuinely beuatiful women enter those silly contests?

I say another run for Chibana-san. She should have won.....

Let the contest begin.

The 173-cm-tall Mima excels in the high jump... So does Japan's investment in Vietnam, result? "Beauty"-full returns!

I'd like to say both of these girls are out of this world...well Riyo Mori is anyway. They make a great couple though. Rowr.

At any rate, Yuukorin will take issue with this title of Miss Universe. She is the real princess of space, particularly of that inside her head. Oh I didn't mean that Yuuko. I love you. xoxo

I do not like this woman one bit. Is this the best they could find?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's just the hair style. I agree it's not flattering, but trust me when she's at the universe all the haters here will have to eat their words. And come on guys, all this criticism is fine, but be honest, there's no way many of you detractors would even come close to getting hitched to a japanese woman half as hot as these two above. Don't be jealous and bitter now.

A bit of a gummy smile, but I've had worse, I suppose. Still given the media blackout Riyo Mori got for not being Japanese enough, it's hardly worth bothering with at all.

sincity - "Why don't genuinely beuatiful women enter those silly contests?"

because either their beauty comes from the modesty of not assuming that they are beautiful, or because they are not so insecure as having to 'prove' their beauty to the world.

These two are just averagely pretty, that's all. What a joke

frontandcentre -

well put. That's kinda my take on the whole thing as well. Though I do like eye andy pictures of women now and again...

rjd_jr -- Apparently you like the Barbie-doll -- pardon me, Licca doll --look. Personally, I'll pass. I mean, seriously, look closely at the picture -- they look like dolls, not real women. (They even have their arms/hands posed identically.) If the caption wasn't there, I bet a lot of people would look and think that it is a picture of two new Licca dolls. They look like they would break if you got too "physical", so to speak. Purely a nice arm-accessory.

Mori is hot as hell.... 'Miss Universe Japan' (a joke contest in and of itself) is not all that good looking. Wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers, but hey.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

they kinda look a like. ;)

jerseyboy, you are aware that beauty pageants make up their women to the hilt and 'doll like' right? Look at all past winners of beauty pageants and the make up is so thick these two above are nothing unique in that aspect. Criticizing the two women above for the way they look or made up is like criticizing a stripper for wearing a g-string. I seriously think (not you necessarily) that it makes many men here and elsewhere feel better about themselves to nitpick and criticize successful or beautiful women, to hate what they can't have. That kind of insecure personality will never attract any women, hot or not. Though again I do find it rather curious that pictures of women here in skimpy outfits seem to have far more 'positive' comments than pictures of beautiful women in 'regular' clothing.

What's curious about that? It's called sexual attraction... and there's nothing curious about it.... unless of course you want us all to die off. I do agree with you on some points, though, mainly that all this is so superficial... but that's life. As for criticizing a stripper for wearing a g-string... she shouldn't technically be wearing anything at all... at least not after the fact. hehehe

I would kick her out of bed for eating crackers.

Peace

She does'nt look too special! May be a change of hairstyle would do. Can we have chibana on POTD please!!

The only way to know if these two are even half-way good looking is to take another look as they step out from a bath.

I volunteer myself to take your test.

Hiko, Senbe, non?

They look pretty good after practicing for hours last night to perfect that patented 'Double Mirror Wave.'

And Sarge, you can't see Hiroko Mima's eyebrows because I shaved them last night.

I'm like that :-)

Well, Japan doesn't stand a chance at this years competition!

Nessie - the only thing I'd let her bring into bed would be a large sized paper bag.

Peace
