I avoid these types of events like the plague.

I avoid these types of events like the plague. yeah same thing year after year, the boredom is excruciating.

The headline should be corrected to this: "A Cellphone Zombie couple look`s at their smartphones more than actually looking at the festival"
nath
Or maybe "A couple look at the pictures they've taken of the festival they are at".
If it were a camera, no one would say anything. When it's a camera on a cell phone, people freak out and cry that it's the end of the world as we know it.

Heaven forbid the Japanese do what they want to in their own country.

Guess they prefer doing that to participating

Oh come on people, how can you find anything negative to say ?! I actually like the pic. They certainly just finished participating, watching the memories they stored after having an enjoyable event.

dctokyo202, that couple is not watching the festival because they participate in the actual Matsuri. They carry the shrine. It looks like it's already finished.

Some people never have anything nice to say about the country. Apparently everything here sucks.
Strangely enough, I see the same thing in ex-pat blogs and forums elsewhere. China, South Korea, places in the Middle East, ad infinitum. The locals are dumb, they should be like back home.
Pretty sad if you ask me.

The couple look so comfortable in the traditional clothes. I noticed the modern dressed people just went about their business. Accepting both types is dress is great. over here, it's taking a little longer to accept newer dress.
