Ah... monarchy- humans born into wealth, power and this. Nice white gloves dude...should be holding a golden spoon. Samurais to Sissies would have fit better....they sure left out about 200 years of havoc. I still cannot believe Monaco citizens can't gamble in their own casinos...

Since Japan holds its Emperor-system in high regard, it is rather reassuring to SEE the Prince and his very gracious and beautiful Princess. . . . perform duties of the State TOGETHER !!!!**

Think that kimono costs a few yen?

I see they rolled out the old folks for publicity. That guy in the middle is getting hage.

His Serene Highness should wear contacts if he's not wearing his glasses

Man calls store: "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?" A very old (and very bad) joke.

Prince Hitachi? LOL! Where did they come up with that? Next there will be a Prince Fujitsu and a Princess Toshiba...

A big difference is that Monaco has no, or very low taxes. Prince Albert, and the entire royal family, is principally self-supporting based on their large family wealth and holdings/business interests. Here, us poor tax payers foot the bill for all these folks.

He was also known as, "Prince Yoshi(Yoshi-no-Miya)", which is a very significant name in Japanese history, like the Fujiwara Clan.

burakumin, are you not familiar with the custom of using your last name as the name of a company? I'm sure a Mr. Honda sounds hilarious to you.

Royal family members have the best welfare deal - lifetime and unlimited use of tax payer money.

Great name for agreat guy. He looks a tad old to be a Prince, no? Or is it like being a politician - you have to be over 60.

No, not really. Honda is like "Smith". But this Hitachi "prince" bloke sounds kinda funny. Anyway - I don't have much time for "royal" people of any country, truth be known, including the balding "Prince" Albert fella. Many of them (not all) live off the taxpayers because they proclaim themselves as "special".

I wasn't sure if that was true for Monaco, but I know from living in Busan that Koreans are not permitted to gamble in hotel casinos. It's supposed to convince (gullible) visitors that "Koreans don't gamble" -- which is ludicrous.

As for royalty, we must feel that they represent something about our cultures, otherwise we wouldn't have them. (Even republicans like Americans still venerate the Kennedy clan or the H'wood junkies as if they were royalty...)
