This year's winners of the 13th annual Clarino Beautiful Legs Awards are from left: actress/model model Sumire, 25, in the 20s category, model/singer Anna Tsuchiya, 31, in the 30s category, actress/singer Yu Hayami, 49, in the over-40 category, and actress Yasuko Sawaguchi, 50, who received a special award. The awards are given by synthetic fiber maker Kuraray to celebrate healthy, "beautiful legs" on women in four different age groups. Clarino is a leather brand of Kuraray, used in shoes and bags.

Sigh... @Yubaru... your point implies only "good" qualities come from the "West". Either that or you must know her father really well... :P

I tend to think Japanese women have very nice legs in general.

Tsuchia can thank her Polish-American father for hers!

In my opinion, leg's should have "muchi muchi" such like kaoru yumi and mari hemmi! Pretty ladies, but my spouse has a lot beautiful legs!

"Yasuko Sawaguchi, 50"

Amazing!

I tend to think Japanese women have very nice legs in general.

Some do - many years of admiring can attest to that - but IMO many are actually a little on the, ahem, stumpy-ish side.

On the other hand, ALL these lovely contestants have beautiful legs, however Ms. Sumire and her silky pins just shade it for me!

I should enter this contest.

Go for it

Yes, no, no, and no.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Sawaguchi, 50 damn she mighty fine for her age

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Wait....Is that the Sumire who was born of Chara and Tadanobu Asano???

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The taller women with long shapely legs make my day. Like Sumire and that little munchkin on the far right.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I should enter this contest.

Yu Hayami's legs are still stunning! ♥

They all have very nice legs, but Anna Tsuchiya's legs are exquisite.

I tend to think Japanese women have very nice legs in general.

After being in Japan over 2 years I have to say I see a lot of truly beautiful legs/women here. I also do not associate an appreciation of beauty with any lack of respect for the person herself; on the contrary, I've been used to being around very smart beautiful women.

Every one is entitled to their own opinion but, for me, this is not at all degrading to women. I can however understand why some people feel it is since many people only see the superficial things in life. Some people are just nicer looking than others, that doesn't degrade the entire sex imo.

Next award, the most beautiful teeth?

@Crustpunker:

Why not just make it "best breasts" ffs....

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing: they start with the legs and why stop there? Afterall, the types of competitions they have here, for publicity's sake. Empowerment of women ... !!! Ha hah! Did that cross anyone's mind, from Clarino thinking up the competition to JT publishing the photo?

Rather, this morning I feel something more fundemental, some joie de vie Thank you for that!

Yasuko has been my favourite since I came here in September 1985, so I am happy.

Curiously, Sumire seems to be the only one worried about anyone looking up her skirt!

Miss Perfect Pins would be a better title. Or Lovely Legs.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I like Sawaguchi. The ones in the middle look like they were on their knees scrubbing floors recently. :)

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

All quite lovely.

Btw, to anyone who likes Sumire, and vintage manga/anime, Google image search for "Sumire Lum" and you may just like it. She has some cute behind-the-scenes photos from the photoshoot on her Ameblo blog as well.

Why is the trophy shape a foot and not a complete leg. They should 3D print the winners legs each successive year.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Yu Hayami has been looking good for a long time. Sumire has the total package: height, shape and face but they all definitely deserve to be there. Excellent photo!

3 ( +7 / -4 )

All stunners. But then, your average woman on the street is equally so.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Le sigh......

Best legs.....this should be a non gender competition. Next year include doods. Only then will this kind of contest be not the most offensive thing ever.

Why not just make it "best breasts" ffs....

Another step backward to empowering woman

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

For a big jyuku-jyo fan like me, Yasuko Sawaguchi is awesome.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

As you say, to each their own. Melissa's legs turn me off.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Damn! chicken legs! Yet, each to their own. I prefer them like Melissa Sarah Wee, without the tattoos.

They are all elegant Divas!

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Lovely women, poor photography.

Sumire: Fit and tone - Tsuchiya: Poor angle on right leg - Hayami: Fit, Wow! - Sawaguchi: Fit

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Useless and pointless but kind of nice, too. Thanks, JT!

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Thank you JT. I'm definitely warm this chilly morning after seeing this picture of 4 truly gorgeous women.

People come up to me every day and ask, 'What happened to women's empowerment?'

...Masako Mori, November 2015

Perhaps the former cabinet minister should ask Clarino?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

The more recent the legs the longer they seem to be. I don't think they get shorter with age so I guess this is emblematic of recent trends. But Sumire is truly stunning.

alb: There are lots of men with girly legs. They just need to shave them and show them to compete.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

There is something disgusting about this award, particularly, the "over 40" category.

@shallots, If we allowed men to enter, would it be more or less disgusting? I'm not knocking you. I agree. The whole thing is weird.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

If it's MOST beautiful legs..actress/model Sumire is the lone winner.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

You're overthinking it.

1 ( +11 / -10 )

There is something disgusting about this award, particularly, the "over 40" category. Is it the objectification? The idea that "over-40" need a category? Or just how ridiculous it seems? Do these women compete for this? Do they enter the contest? I just find it humiliating for some reason.

-9 ( +8 / -17 )

Sumire in my books - and she's hot in general already.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

Sumire by a long shot

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Sawaguchi takes it.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Shouldn't this be called "Best Leggist?"
