My daughter recently said her hobby was sleeping!!When I came to Japan first and heard that as an answer to whats your hobby? i was shocked but now even my daughter has been infected.
They must be like my wife who can ""zip"" into the super for 2-3 items & can easily take an hour or more!!! GW often relaxes in the car with a book(which is ALWAYS there for this purpose) or catch a snooze haha.
Sometimes if I have any shopping I can get it done & meet the wife back at the car & STILL get some read &/or snoozing in EASY!!
That's exactly what these dudes are doing in the picture!
I've found even better ! A "massage contraption" on chairs in a department store where it's "free-of-charge" to use one ! (It's a good "commercial" since I'm actually thinking of buying one ! ;) )
Oh, so that's what you guys do when I ask you to hold my handbag while I'm in the dressing room.
Tessa,
Oh how I WISH, most ladies apparel shops have NO WHERE for us guys to plant ourselves, so we have to linger, wonder, on our own in places we should never be LOL!!!
I think Japanese people tend more toward having a nap in the public places, say, on the train and on the coach in a department store like the above, while non-Japanese tend more toward staying awake except for some extraordinary reason. Or, uh, Japanese people might be simply pretending to be taking a nap. ;‑)
I wish every woman's shop had a place for naps. That said, I don't go shopping with women if I don't want to ...period. those days are done. Let them be mad or find a girlfriend. Nor do I get up early on days off "just because they do". great way to ruin a good relationship haha!
Ah, well... the sofas and arm chairs are there to relax in, so why not? so long as it's in a department store and the chairs are not intended for numerous people to sit in (and clearly they are not), I don't care. It's the people who decide to take a nap in coffee shops, libraries, and sprawl out on park benches and other public spaces, denying others who want to use the space to drink coffee/shop, read/study, and sit and enjoy the park that bug me.

Mrs is shopping = Good op for a long nap.

When women are depressed, they eat or go shopping. Men take a nap or invade another country. It's a whole different way of thinking.

Wow! It's nice photo.
I understand their wife or daughter or girlfriend have gone shopping by themselves.....

Mr cleo is not allowed to nap while I am shopping. I need someone to tell me truthfully if my bum looks big in this.

Cleo - yes, it does.

Been there done that. If she wants to shop and there's nothing in the area for me to do, then I'm napping like those guys.

They look so peaceful, let them alone -- makes me want to take a nap too.

Good place to nap, those sofa's are at least 150000 yen a piece, so better be worth the $
