What i will say is that in all my experience of working in Japan i have found the women to be harder working and more competent than the men i have either worked with or managed

I could the same for back home too. But like everywhere, there's also (lots of) no-hopers of both genders.

It has also - largely- been my experience too . . .And in spite of all the cynical comments, lets raise toast because THIS is ONE bold step i n the right direction towards gender equity in Japan. . . . . sometimes changes have to start from the top down.

i am not totally committed to the idea of having "quotas" or choosing people for jobs on the basis of their gender (or indeed any other defining characteristic). What i will say is that in all my experience of working in Japan i have found the women to be harder working and more competent than the men i have either worked with or managed. and so having an increasing nuumber of women in the top echelons of government seems like a good thing to me on that basis alone. Let's hope they don't turn out to be "yes-women" but actually do light a fire under Honesyt's government.

Looks like they're ready to bust out in a Hollywood musical.

Definitely an improvement. Without the ladies, you see mostly grumpy old men. Some balance is always good.

I thought it was a nursing home picture at first.

You want real equality, judge these women by their actions and not by by their pictures just as you would male politicians. Sexual equality isn't just about being there, it's what you do when you get there.

I haven't agreed with much of what Abe has said or done and if theyre handpicked by him, I'm sure they'll do what he wants.

It seems that every minister except prime minister is not important for country's helming, but ministry bureaucrats are actually controling the country.

Welcome to Abenomics and womenomics!

A nice group picture of Mr. Abe's new cabinet but more than that we hope that his selection of men and women were of the greatest and highest ethical and professional integrity to serve.
