New Olympic sports to be decided in 2016

International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice President John Coates, left, and Yoshiro Mori, president of the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee of Olympic and Paralympic Games, chat during a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday. The final determination of which new sports will be added to the program for the Tokyo 2020 Games will be made in August next year just prior to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Synchronized navel-gazing?

Forget about AKB embarrassing Japan, Mori will definitely have the country blushing again should the moron live to see 2020

Just take out any sports that has the word "synchronized" in it, or involves dancing horses, and all will be good.

Well look at that. One of Japan's worst prime ministers ever making decisions on the Olympics.

I wouldn't be surprised if he brings in stand-up peeing and synchro-farting into the Games.

That photo is so romantic!

Mori should have been fired after making those comments about the figure skaters. Probably being there when Japan got the Tokyo Olympics sealed his lifetime position.

Another fresh-faced, innovative decision maker!

Is Mori what the government and ministry of education mean when they speak of "Global Human Resources?"

I have a suggestion to make to International Olympic Committee for 2020 Tokyo.

Why do you want to do this in August that is the hottest , the highest humidity season of year in Japan. That's the well known common sense among global audience, and we try to avoid Japan entirely during this season. I would not be too surprised to see many victims with heat strokes.

I have been totally against this idea from the beginning. . Now we may be dealing with security, earthquake, and heat strokes issues. I see too many risks in exhange of very limited benefits to hospitality/traveling indurstry.

Only Mr. Ishihara is smiling?!

Mori + Akimoto = FAIL

Who was it that had the foresight to appoint Mori? Oh right, he is apparently leading the country in a new direction.

"Rugby! Rugby! RUGBY!!!"

One sport that will be there is baseball ... which was given the boot just a while ago. Also returning will be softball.

Once upon a time there was a bowling boom here in Japan. Wonder why the bowlers' groups here don't press for this sport to be added to the Olympics. After all, bowling is popular throughout the Far East and elsewhere in the world.

Ancient Olympics exemplified survival skills: running, rock throwing, etc. Modern Olympics should, too: earbud untangling, texting while driving in snow, or navigating Facebook's privacy settings.

FTW!

"Is Mori what the government and ministry of education mean when they speak of 'Global Human Resources?'"

And here I thought that term only plagued my workplace. No matter how often I try to kill it off, it keeps coming back.

@jcapan "And here I thought that term only plagued my workplace. No matter how often I try to kill it off, it keeps coming back."

Nope, like a bad rash or Japanese cockroach, it's here to stay.

Take out the subjectively judged ones; leave in the ones were you try to either get there first or else put a ball there more times than the team trying to stop you.

Don't think too hard Mori-san...you might get a mental cramp.

"Hey Coates, can you believe it, I actually said I was Hillary's husband"...hahaha... I'm so funny, don't ya think?"

It's sad that so many more skilled athletes were passed over for this position by Mori..those which are more international, much more intelligent and are in much better physical shape to boot.
