But in USA, streets sre full with Japanese bland csrs and hardly Detroit prodiuced csrs Ditto with Auto shows in Vegas.

They say a camel is a horse designed by a committee. Well, I give you the 2015 Prius.

The US streets are full of Japanese cars that look nothing like the Japanese models. They're designed for the US market (they come with a huge rear end...) and most are built in the US. The US models are fat, barely fit in a lane and they turned Japanese cars into Chevy's. They even turned Mercedes Benz into Ford SUV's. They look exacly the same, same large rear ends that Americans love.

Oops, I have to go. The Kardasians are on...

If you don't care about looks, comfort, and driving dynamics, and you don't mind driving a fridge, you buy Japanese cars, especially a Toyota.

But if you care about how the car looks and how it drives, you buy German.

From the front it looks like a demonic smile.

Looks like a catfish.

What's wrong with how it looks? It looks like a car. It's red, much better than the drab grey/white/beige vehicles that fill every car park.

Still, I can understand practicalities in a car are more important than looks. Will it fit a dog crate and a week's shopping in the back?

@Cleo I agree with the principle - I've always driven practical cars. Still, there's no need to terrify the kids with a demonic face rolling into the car park. I flinched when I saw this photo. I think I might have another Scotch before bed to calm the nerves.

Little too pointy. There will be so many of these in a few years in Japan streets like Uniqlo garments. So less conspicuous the better.

Functional but ugly. When are the Prius - and Nissan LEAF - going to get attractive designs to match their great tech? Its not like Japanese companies can't design great looking cars nowadays: look at the fantastic Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ - a beautiful car.

I once compared the Ford B-Max, the replacement for the European Ford Fusion (which is, roughly speaking, an estate version of the Fiesta) and based on a Mazda design, to the sight of the Bug from Men In Black after he had put on his "Edgar suit" at the point where he pulled the skin on the back of his neck to tighten up his face. "Is that better?" he quipped before the wife faints.

So many cars now appear, at least in my own country, to imitate this look. I'm not sure if Japan is to blame for it or if Japan is mimicking that look but this Prius is just as bad.

Design alone does not sell. Smart buyers look beyond design. Toyota will continue to sells alot of Prius and will make money, but a sluggish sale for FR-S/BRZ will continue. Perhaps because it's somewhat less practical than other cars.

They can slap a hybrid engine and/or fuel cell in any chassis. Prii (the plural form of Prius) are designed "ugly" on purpose. Just like expensive hyper-cars have a certain design language that reflect on their owners, so do eco-freindly cars, like the Prius.
