Nice Boots?....No...I don't think so.

Queen Jetsun-san looks sweet and King Jigme got that Elvis thing going on.

Jetsun and Jigme, looks like I have the name of my new Japanese singing group!

Readers, please do not make fun of their names. It is ill-mannered.

Japan's getting a lot of attention from Bhutan recently - the PM of Bhutan visited a primary school in Fukushima in September and ate lunch with the children there, as well as visiting their classes and giving a talk about Bhutan. Apparently, the country also sent supplies over after the earthquake.

Apparently the king met his future wife when he was 17 and she was 7 and fell in love with her immediately. He married her when she was legal age.

wow, what a queen! she alone makes this picture worthwhile

Where is Bhutan? And as i right this i realize i was thinking about Burnai which im clueless as to its location. Bhutan is near Nepal? Right? Google time

Well, I think the two on the right look absolutely dashing. So spirited, full of color and style. I can feel their culture and pride in it.

On the left, they look pitifully boring. Hitomi didn't even bother to wear a Kimono. Guess what kind of message she sent assuming the royals from Bhutan are intelligent enough to recognize when they aren't welcomed properly.

Furthermore if this is THE KING, then the event should have been postponed till the Emperor is feeling better. Noda is a low level politician even if he is the Prime Minister. Here in Japan it's more like being the office manager.

You really have to know Japan's customs to recognize whether or not they are sincere.

The King and Queen here are extremely popular in Bhutan. And I have seen nicer boots.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

I saw the queen on TV the other night. She is stunningly beautiful.

They're here on their honeymoon. Very attractive pair...

I hope Mr. Noda and his wife will show them a wonderful time...

"These flowers??" We have them in Bhutan! Why do you think they are unique to Japan?!"

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Not only is she incredibly beautiful but she just won the Best "Queen"ist award

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Bhutan is a country to be envied. Their lifestyle may be way to slow for us westerners, they are happy in a way we can imagine but we can't understand.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The idea of "Gross National Happiness" originated in Bhutan as well.

These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I quite like the boots. I wonder what the historical significance or tradition behind them is.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Bhutan limits the amount of tourists a year ( I believe 5,000-10,000 ) and Taktsang Manastery is very famous for it's cliff hanging location ( Google image it )

3 ( +4 / -1 )

The Butanes queen is hot! Although it does not show in this picture.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Those boots are hideous!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

These are the flowers you get if you last a year, don't touch them they are from Fukushima.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

They all look so happy and interested.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Queen is a beauty, heard it was a forced marriage tho, so not sure if she is indeed happy. Who cares what they are wearing.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Those are American motorcycle boots he is wearing - he must be a biker. Theyre pretty cool. I used to have a pair just like them.

NetNinja - good post. I was prompted to look into the background of the visit. Seems the king was discussing political matters with Noda. He will meet the Imperial family later (I'd guess the emperor's continued high fever will rule him out though). Here's the background from another site (including typo and throwaway ending):

On November 15, 2011, T.M.s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan arrived in Tokyo, Japan to begin their six-day official visit to the country.

The reigning couple met with Japanese Prime Minister, Yoshihiko Noda and his wife, Hitomi, at the Akasaka guesthouse in Tokyo where they discussed important issues concerning their countries.

During their visit King Jigme and Queen Jetsun are scheduled to visit Soma City in Fukushima Prefecture and meet local youth, attend a gala banquet with members of the Japanese Imperial family, visit Keio University were the king will receive an honorary doctorate, and much more.

And if Her Royal Highness, Queen Jetsun Pema permits me to say so, Girl, you're damned hot!

"You do wrong in my country, and you know will this boot wil go"

"These boots are made for walking." ;)

Interesting design.

I though the title is "nice boat".

I wish Bhutan’s King and Queen will enjoy Japan.

Bhutan's king is the greatest king around nowadays. He does so much for his country and should be set an example for other leaders. I watched their wedding ceremony, it was so beautiful and colorful yet so simple like a village wedding. My husband was surprised at her beauty and how mature she looks being only 21, he said you would never see someone here like that. They are here on their honeymoon and I really wish them all the best and I hope they can spend a very nice time here, and I hope to see them very often coming here.

King in Boots!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Those boots are traditional hand made. They are worn on ceremonial occasions (mandatory); the colours used on the boot denote the rank and status of the person wearing it. In the pecking order, Ministers wear orange, senior officials wear red and the common people wear white boots.

Wish I coud photo shop this and superimpose a guitar in his hands.......

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I don't think it's a bad thing about the ages when the Bhutan royal couple first met. Obviously they liked each other and were happy to wait several years to marry. Good on them, I wish them every happiness.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Best dressed king and queen. Ever.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

So on their honeymoon they are dragged to tsunami zone. Why? Why does Japan seem to take everyone and their dog there? We get it. It was horrible. Perhaps they could do other things like, I don't know, discuss business and how to strengthen ties?

And what is with the honorary degree? Why do people get these things??

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Queen Jetsun has got to be the best-looking monarch in the world at the moment. Blimey - what an absolute cracker!

They say money can't buy happiness, but it certainly makes it easier to fill your life with beautiful distractions. Good work, King Jigme!

I'll bet Mr Noda's thinking he drew the short straw.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

I hear there are rules for preserving traditional dress in Bhutan, hence the getup of the couple.

Should be captioned "Rocker Wangchuck shows Nada his air guitar technic"

Bootsy Collins?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

She's a knockout.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

He's a hottie - loved watching him speaking English to everyone. At least the Empress could speak to him. Noda? Not so much I fear.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I love this guys hair!! I wish I had a bit more hair like this king! The boots?? Well not too sure what to make of them, but maybe Foxie is on to something about rank etc..the wife, very pretty!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Queen Jetsun Pema is indeed stunning but a bit on the thin side. After a few royal bambinos later, she'll be perfect.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

*"The royal couple apparently met when aged 17 and 7 respectively at a family picnic in Thimphu.

The then-prince got down on his knees and said "when you grow up, if I am single and not married and if you are single and not married, I would like you to be my wife, provided we still feel the same," he told students in August. *

If a 17 year old said this to my 7year old daughter, he would never see her again, be reported to the police as a danger, and be lucky to escape without my husband punching him in the face, King or not.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@goinggoinggone

be lucky to escape without my husband punching him in the face, King or not

I imagine your husband would be roughed up, then locked up, and would be lucky to be deported quickly. I hope neither of you visit Bhutan, for everybody's sake.

We would never visit a sham democracy with an appalling human rights record anyway, Basher. If it is common to arrange marriages with 7 year old girls, then Bhutan has a long way to go before they should be welcomed on the international stage.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

They don't call it Bootan for nothing.
