I don"t see any school-uniforms in that pic. Guess the kids chose their own clothing for the day. Did you notice the other girls in jeans, etc.

@Zenny11: I know that there are not any students in unifomrs in the picture. Take a look at the girl in the far left, with long stockings and a short skirt. I would hardly consider that cold weather wear since a large area of her legs are open to the air. Also look at the boy carrying the green bag wearing some sort of cargo shorts.

Obviously they are on some type of school trip, and I am glad that they are not stuck with the rigid school uniform wear, but at least I was always taught if you are going out in public for an offical event like a school trip, you don't have to wear a suit but at least look presentable and wear weather appropiate clothing.

Alphaape--up until about January the daytime temperatures aren't very bad in Tokyo. You can get away with a light jacket and maybe a long-sleeved shirt as long as it isn't dark out.

That may be true, but I have seen on many occasions young students after dark (now 4:30pm) in the same school clothes with the temperature dropping. Can't they at least do like we did in the military, have seasonal wear for school uniforms so at least kids are not out walking in too short miniskorts (like the girl in the far left) or shorts that need to be worn during warmer periods. I guess I am just an out of style ojisan.

I won't get into a whole rant about seasonal wear, though. (How people will wear what is season-appropriate even if it is not appropriate for the weather.)

Ahh the Diet building. it has been Kaiju fodder for years.

Just wondering, why does it seem that school children in Japan wear shorts or summer clothing in the winter time. A few students seem to have on what I would consider spring or summer wear, and not winter wear. I have also noticed this with kids who wear uniforms to school, with some elementary kids wearing those very short shorts and only a jacket.

Is there somethig I'm missing? I wonder what the "sick at home count" is for these kids with skimpy clothing each year in the winter.

@rranta: Elementary school kids do not need to wear uniforms (unless they go to private schools).

Where is the Kaiju sitting on top of the Building?

we don't need no education, we don't need no thought control !!!!!

thankfully these kids are oblivious to the nut bar building behind them. Let them enjoy their holidays

It's good for these kids to know that their Government is looking out for them!

ah, those were the days. being carefree, and looking at the world with eyes of innocence. (sp??). I thought most school children had to wear school uniforms? Over here in the states, they're talking about going back to wearing uniforms. must be progress. Merry Christmas to all of you. Hope you all have healthy and wonderful New Year.
