No FTA

South Korean farmers smash boxes symbolizing the Free Trade Agreement between South Korea, Japan, and China during a rally denouncing the FTA talks in front of the venue where the discussions are being held, in Seoul, on Tuesday. The writing reads "Stop, FTA between South Korea, China and Japan."

These people are living in the past. Hopefully one day they'll wake up.

No FTA! We want to keep our jobs, and to heck with everyone who wants to buy food at lower prices!

I doubt it - they'll pass their prejudices down from generation to generation

a good chance to make room for talks and to improve relations between the countries involved.

FTA demise before birth (!)

So many countries are actually benefiting from FTAs! I know some people at first are scared but this is just part of growing pains of free economies.

with a FTA with the EU and the US already.. People should realize.. if history has taught us anything, hungry people make, fanatical people.. socio-political revolutions of the past has stemmed from such instances.. And food is what makes society viable.. placing ones food resources in a few baskets.. and limiting domestic production will only cause strife later..

Is it so difficult to get people who are dissatisfied with urban life (homeless, unemployed), to ask them to go work in the countryside? Free rent, free food.. and a healthy lifestyle..

With Japan never going to achieve anything with the TPP but political intransigence, and expediency.. is it so difficult for the Japanese to stop saying.. shikataganai.. The Americans have been negotiating in the TPP talks for 5 years.. what can Japan, do in 5 months ?

Japan will gain a huge benefit by having this FTA. Too bad it's only a one way street.

No more foreign aid to countries that protest us.

I think Koreans did it in spite they hate Japanese

I can understand South Korea agreeing to FTA with China, but there's nothing good about the FTA with Japan. At least China buys a ton of products from South Korea, and the Koreans get to enjoy cheaper priced Chinese agricultural products, which in turn will bring down food prices and inflation in Korea. But the Japanese don't buy anything from South Korea other than few sea weeds. What advantage possibly would there be for Korea to have an FTA with Japan? Those Korean farmers have a point. They not only have to compete with Chinese farmers, they now have to compete with Japanese farmers, and yet Japanese won't touch Korean exports with a ten foot pole.

People have no idea the implications.. the corrupt politics.. the payoffs.. or the real benefits of FTA... some people make money.. others will lose everything..
