I still wonder why oh why did someone COPY the statue of liberty and make one in Tokyo. Is nothing original here?!

While in the same breath always proclaiming how uniquely unique they are.

when did Japanese merge Paris and NewYork in one single city?

I heard that the statue was made in France and the permission was needed by France to put it in Odaiba.

I still like being in Odaiba very much even with the statue of liberty and a sort of copy of the "Erasmus bridge" (near Palette Town,.. damn.. I looked surprised the first time I saw it). The background of the Rainbow bridge and Tokyo Tower in background is really amazing at night...

In case you didn't bother to look for an answer. Which I find an unreasonable thing to do when wanting to know something.

How old is this photo? I saw the Rainbow Bridge this Wednesday and it was lit up only with white lights. It was rainbow-coloured sometime towards the end of last year but I don't think it is now.

Like the Statue of Liberty in NY, the one in Tokyo was a gift from France. It was sent to Tokyo in 1998 for "French Year in Japan". It was so popular that a replica was erected in 2000, after the original was sent back to Paris.

I have a shot just like this which I took 10 years ago. Always love to see the bridge with the rainbow colours.

Well, my friends, I know it is only symbolic, and it isn't MEANT to stand for America or anything, but nonetheless seeing that statue IN Japan is almost as scary seeing as scott brown driving around here in Hirakata in his pickup truck would be.Take it from someone who grew up in Kingston,Ontario, which is only about 600 kilometres from New York!

shouldn't Hatoyama replace Lady Liberty with Comrade Hu?

...And in one magnificent photo we see three symbols of Japan's fascination with the western world.

Excellent photo!

Sarge I agree, it is sweet. Did you take it? Where is the poem attached to it?

All you need is some slot machines and Odaiba is the next Vegas.

It might be taken near "Aqua-city Odaiba". I wanna be there!

Wow - New York looks lovely this time of year.

If Ishihara makes it happen I might try and kiss him

Mauro E Jasmin is a very good photographer. I admire the picture.

I was really dubious about this shot being real - I was thinking there was a good possibility it was composited together in Photoshop. But then I pulled up Google Earth and saw that this alignment really is accurate. Kudos to Mr. Jasmin for a great shot.

Japan can try to copy... but can never understand.

I was taken a few weeks ago they sometimes light the bridge up like that for special events, the last time it was on Dec 2009

I have seen the same statue in Paris.... in two different place...

The photo show Japans interneationalism of objects, but although pretty cannot convey the opposite view of most Japanese.

I think this picture is composed from 2 different photos, because to take this picture in just one shot you need to take it from a long distance and I remember there is not so much space in front of the Statue of Liberty. Anyway is very evocative!
