Vera Zvonareva of Russia returns the ball to her compatriot Elena Dementieva during their quarterfinal of the Pan Pacific Open tennis tournament in Tokyo on Friday. Dementieva won the match 6-4, 7-5.

@smartacus: It's not so much a matter of timing - the photographer was almost certainly shooting 8 or 9 frames per second here. Also, you can see that there's almost no depth of field - he had his aperture open wide, to allow for quicker shutter speed. And because he wasn't using flash, he was probably shooting at a pretty high ISO setting.

One must admit that this is a very interesting photo of the Russian tennis player in action. How it was taken so many of us are left wondering. So credit to the photographer.
