Okada was quoted as saying "hell of a roller coaster ride that. I cant possibly handle more excitement".

Can someone please let me know what I am missing? Why does Japan have to go to the Swiss Alps to train at altitude? Doesn't Japan have enough mountains? Maybe it has to do with the two friendlies they are gonna play, so they needed to be in Europe. But I thought Japan has Alps of their own.

Looking like just another bunch of robotic salary men.

You'd think at least one of them could force out a half-smile. god forbid they look like they're enjoying themselves.

"This does not look like training to me..."

and

"vacation time started already perhaps???"

Funny to see that still some posters think that it means training, eating, sleeping, training, eating, sleeping...etc 24/7.

Herefornow, what you're missing is that South Africa is in the same time zone as Europe. Probably that's why other teams are in the European Alps as well for training at altitude. Doesn't sound so strange to me...adapting to altitude AND a different time zone in one time.

LOL By this pic, it looks as though some are confused on how to get out of the train cars.

I have a really dumb question... Why not train in South Africa where the soccer games will be played?

This is soooooo KEWL! The Japanese National Soccer Team rode an electric train from Japan to Switzerland!

The team was shown giving a jersey to PM Hatoyama on Tuesday. http://www.japantoday.com/category/picture-of-the-day/view/join-the-team

That must be a very fast shinkansen to make it from Japan to Europe in one day.

All i can see is the early sign of fatigue, DPJ should review and reduce budget for such leisure activities.

The Swiss Alps is a fitting place for them. Like swiss cheese, their defense is full of holes. Like swiss army knives, their team is full of tools.

Traveling in style.

You mean training in style.

I saw this on TV (NHK, of course) last night. The men looked really tired (no wonder after a 16 hour flight), but they appreciated the hearty welcome they got and tried to smile. Wish them luck.

Yes, Debucho, that is a dumb question. Actually dumber than the fact that you thought the WC was in South America. They are training in Switzerland due to the fact that there are better facilities there and the crime rate is 99% lower. Plus the higher altitude is good for training the heart / lungs.

Drab picture. Those cobblestones make for a hell of a bumpy ride, I can almost hear the teeth-chattering.

This is Train-ing in a literary way!

They probably all just woke up. Likely got on the wee train and, since it is a train, instantly fell asleep. Would have happened without the jetlag, I am sure!! lol
