Same as in Sapporo, crowds. Don't these people know why they can't go in? Now back to reality and the delta scourge but unfortunately, we won't prevail unless stupidity is controlled.

Hence folk gathering to take pictures of pretty lights outside a venue for an event they'll be paying for (in more ways than one) but are not allowed into.

Hence the rise in covid cases in the metropolis and surrounding areas.

Oh, no. I’ve lived in and around it for about 20 years. So much to do and see and new things popping up all the time. As my coworker told me, there is more going on at most of the stations of the Yamanote Line than in his hometown in Tohoku.

I travelled extensively in Japan for work and pleasure. I wouldn’t have lived anywhere else in Japan. I’ll be back there to visit.

A visit is fine. You couldn’t pay me to live there, though. Too many people, too much concrete, too much pollution, not enough open green spaces. It’s not for me.

Obviously, some folk do enjoy living in Tokyo, and more power to them: but if the best entertainment on a Sunday evening is standing in a crowd watching pretty lights and catching covid, I’ll definitely pass.

It certainly isn’t the best entertainment on offer in Tokyo on a Sunday evening ( in normal circumstances) in my opinion, but each to their own. I don’t know what you like to do but I like restaurants, bars, museums, live music venues, sports stadiums, markets, book shops, musical instrument shops. My wife is more department store shopping, public lectures, art galleries, cinemas, dance shows.

I can see you like a more rural setting and don’t like cities. Fair enough. Cities have their downsides.

Tokyo boring? I think Fuzzy got it right. Definitely not boring.

The pic says it all and that's why the infection rate is no going down despite being in the 3rd week of the state of emergency. I guess we'll see another spike in about a week from now.

I live in the countryside near the sea. In normal years there are firework displays in the summer are much more enjoyable than the displays in Tokyo because they are not overcrowded. not even crowded. You can sit well-spaced out in comfort on the beach and watch.

Last year and again this year the fireworks in this area were cancelled because of the pandemic even though there is little covid in this area.

So why the **** was there a fireworks display in the most crowded, most covid-infected city in the country?

A fireworks display is bound to result in crowded places and close contact, two of the three Cs.

They didn’t care about social distancing any more.

It’s crazy!

Difficult to accept, but in fact it’s their city and country, so they can make irresponsible mass gatherings and accelerated virus distribution as much as they please.

It would have been safer to just let the fans in the stadium and space them out.
