goo lord...why even bother? This is why I will never go to these types of pools in Japan

not enough chlorine in the world

Human soup.

God it looks like China.

That's the sad part of summer in Japan...unless u don't mind beig scrubbed like a potatoe by another human potatoe next to you!!!..i will never bother!..it's no fun at all..even the indoor pools are packed as well..there's no where to go except to travel out of Japan..like in the serene and exclusive islands of the Philippines or nearby Asian countries. What adds to the worst scenario is when pools close by 5:00 p.m....unbelievably sticking to the rules of the human robots.

"it looks like China"

I've seen even more crowded pools in China.

"pools close by 5pm"

Hey, it's dinner time!

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

All those little kids ... you have to wonder what they do when they need to "go."

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I hate to be a lifeguard, how on earth can you see someone drown? Isnt this dangerous and illegal?

Give me a nice river to swim in :)

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Right beside that monstrosity runs the Akigawa, a gorgeous mountain river that's perfect for swimming, with warm, placid turquoise water. How ironic is that, eh?

I've been to the Rainbow Pool in Showa Kinen Koen (Nishi Tachikawa/Chuo Line) many times, and it's never been crowded... very pleasant. <http://www.timeout.jp/en/tokyo/venue/9907/Rainbow-Pool-and-Water-Playland

Way too old dudes in this pic for my tastes! If this pool was fool of lovely young Japanese and other Asian babes, etc..then I would say, let me dive in, but a bunch older folk taking their grandkids to Tokyo Summerland, no thanks! And we should be happy these Japanese do not have all the guns like the NRA want us to do in the USA, right?? hahaha!

Anywhere outside of Tokyo (and maybe Osaka), you'll find plenty of indoor and outdoor pools without having to slither up and down on the person next to you.

Down here in Shikoku, these outdoor water parks aren't even close to being filled to capacity most of the time. Plus, the beaches of Tokushima and Kochi are pretty and relatively uncrowded.

No need to leave Japan. Just need to leave the ridiculously overcrowded metropolis of Edo.

Is this a quality of life? I will pass....

0 ( +3 / -3 )

You can experience the same thing in your own bath...

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The Toshimaen pool yesterday wasn't as bad as this... Where's the water?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Thiat is just plain gross. What kind of fun could that be?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

This is filthy. A public toilet bowl?

7 ( +10 / -3 )

10% of that water is probably urine

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Where,s Wally!!!!!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Tokyo style!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Pictures like this make me appreciate my YC&AC membership all the more

Commercial greed overriding public safety... Where is the health and safety rules on the maximum number allowed in the pool at the same time??? No wonder we always hear about e-coli infection outbreaks during summer in Japan....

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Makes me think of this http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/07/30/take-a-dip-in-this-overcrowded-chinese-lake-if-you-dare/

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Like many operators, they'd rather cram in as many people as physically possible - completed disregarding the experience (ie. what you're paying for!) or, more importantly, SAFETY!

Someone is going to drown here someday.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Looks fun if you are

a. a potato

b. a chikan

The only thing missing here are the train cars. It looks like 'rush hour' at Shinjuku JR Station. ;)

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I also wonder why there are no limits to number of people allowed in buildings in Japan, it is a disaster waiting to happen

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It seems reasonably clear then - that there must be many many people who really enjoy being part of a huge crowd. But surely - we knew that already? - The beaches of southern UK, (anyone been to Brighton on a hot bank holiday?) - the ever growing success of pop festivals and concerts - 'shopping' especially at 'sale' times - etcetc. Nope, I dont want to do any of it - but I havnt got a single word to say against that vast crowd of happy bathers. Hope every single one of them enjoyed every moment.

About 12,000 people flocked to the pool to cool off.

With all those bodies in that pool there is no way in hell that the water is going to be anywhere close to being cold enough to "cool off".

Idiotic to say the least.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

There was a photo just like this on here a year ago. If you live in Tokyo, you really do miss the 'real' Japan.

It looks oddly like an orgy!

If I had to choose between staying home with aircon or this pool.... aircon it is!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The summer land is only crowded with many people in summer....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@ Elbuda Mexicano - Way too old dudes in this pic for my tastes!

I think it's great to see dads and granddads with their kids in the pool trying to enjoy themselves, even though it is too crowded for my taste; I'd prefer the sea or a lake.

Remember, you'll be old one day....

Tokyo Summerland is on the fringes on western Tokyo, many miles inland from the coast and beaches. So it's understandable that it attracts patrons from local neighborhoods like Hachioji and Fussa.

Contrast that to the many Chiba cooling spots. I was driving down the Kujukuri coast on Saturday, there were so many empty car parking spaces along the beaches. Where da Tokyo wimmin at? I thought, this article answered it all.

No thank you! Not at all! I wonder how many of these people are spending the week with ear, nose and throat infections.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I'm laughing because the news this weekend was making an issue about a pool in China and they were mocking it and making comments about how unsafe it was.... ahem.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

I can see alot of unwanted touchy feely in that warm water.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Will never try to be in this so crowded & filty place.! C'mon people there are a lot of good places where u can swim..this I can't understand..bring your young kids here.??

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

If I believed in hell, I am pretty sure it would look just like that.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

What percent of the water, at this point, do you think is urine? Just curious...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

@John

Look on the bright side: that urine is over 95% water : )

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Human soup.

More like pee soup. Like being in a giant toilet. I wonder how many times they have to drain and replace the water in that pool.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It does not look like fun.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why in the world would they allow flotation devices? Get rid of those and you can squeeze in another hundred people.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Hey, that's me- short, black hair seen from behind.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

wow - imagine how much pee there is in the pool

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The sardine life in Tokyo.....No thanks!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Cool off? The temperature of that water must be 37C (98.6 F)!
