Right beside that monstrosity runs the Akigawa, a gorgeous mountain river that's perfect for swimming, with warm, placid turquoise water. How ironic is that, eh?

goo lord...why even bother? This is why I will never go to these types of pools in Japan

Anywhere outside of Tokyo (and maybe Osaka), you'll find plenty of indoor and outdoor pools without having to slither up and down on the person next to you.

Down here in Shikoku, these outdoor water parks aren't even close to being filled to capacity most of the time. Plus, the beaches of Tokushima and Kochi are pretty and relatively uncrowded.

No need to leave Japan. Just need to leave the ridiculously overcrowded metropolis of Edo.

Commercial greed overriding public safety... Where is the health and safety rules on the maximum number allowed in the pool at the same time??? No wonder we always hear about e-coli infection outbreaks during summer in Japan....

It seems reasonably clear then - that there must be many many people who really enjoy being part of a huge crowd. But surely - we knew that already? - The beaches of southern UK, (anyone been to Brighton on a hot bank holiday?) - the ever growing success of pop festivals and concerts - 'shopping' especially at 'sale' times - etcetc. Nope, I dont want to do any of it - but I havnt got a single word to say against that vast crowd of happy bathers. Hope every single one of them enjoyed every moment.

I hate to be a lifeguard, how on earth can you see someone drown? Isnt this dangerous and illegal?

Give me a nice river to swim in :)

I think it's great to see dads and granddads with their kids in the pool trying to enjoy themselves, even though it is too crowded for my taste; I'd prefer the sea or a lake.

That's the sad part of summer in Japan...unless u don't mind beig scrubbed like a potatoe by another human potatoe next to you!!!..i will never bother!..it's no fun at all..even the indoor pools are packed as well..there's no where to go except to travel out of Japan..like in the serene and exclusive islands of the Philippines or nearby Asian countries. What adds to the worst scenario is when pools close by 5:00 p.m....unbelievably sticking to the rules of the human robots.

Is this a quality of life? I will pass....

You can experience the same thing in your own bath...

Like many operators, they'd rather cram in as many people as physically possible - completed disregarding the experience (ie. what you're paying for!) or, more importantly, SAFETY!

I also wonder why there are no limits to number of people allowed in buildings in Japan, it is a disaster waiting to happen

The summer land is only crowded with many people in summer....

Tokyo Summerland is on the fringes on western Tokyo, many miles inland from the coast and beaches. So it's understandable that it attracts patrons from local neighborhoods like Hachioji and Fussa.

Contrast that to the many Chiba cooling spots. I was driving down the Kujukuri coast on Saturday, there were so many empty car parking spaces along the beaches. Where da Tokyo wimmin at? I thought, this article answered it all.

I can see alot of unwanted touchy feely in that warm water.

Why in the world would they allow flotation devices? Get rid of those and you can squeeze in another hundred people.

About 12,000 people flocked to the pool to cool off.

With all those bodies in that pool there is no way in hell that the water is going to be anywhere close to being cold enough to "cool off".

If this pool was fool of lovely young Japanese and other Asian babes, etc..then I would say, let me dive in, but a bunch older folk taking their grandkids to Tokyo Summerland, no thanks! And we should be happy these Japanese do not have all the guns like the NRA want us to do in the USA, right?? hahaha!
