Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic holds up her winner's plate during an award ceremony following her victory over Angelique Kerber of Germany in the final of the Pan Pacific Open Tennis tournament in Tokyo on Saturday. Kvitova won 6-2, 0-6, 6-3.

Beautiful plate, worthy of the victor. I'll have to visit the site of that last st, when I get to Tokyo, in a few weeks. Well done, well done, hosts of the tournament!

Hmmm....that might have more lasting value than some of these cheaply plated medals that get handed out. My first reaction as a function over form type person was "that's all?" but on second thought I might rather have the plate.

Actually it's better for urushi coated plate to be used sometimes.
