Stupid people that would change their tune in a heartbeat if they got what they wanted and then found themselves in the dark and sweating it out because they could not afford to pay for the REAL COST OF NOT HAVING NUCLEAR POWER!!!

Funny how Thorium reactors are no where in the news and yet they are VERY safe and can NOT be used to make weapons grade materials and THE ONLY REASON THE USA NEVER ADOPTED THORIUM REACTORS and now Iran will not either even if you gave it to them for free so they can power their country. Hmmmm, I wonder why?

Yes, because nuclear is so cheap. Oh wait, no it isn't.

REAL COST OF NOT HAVING NUCLEAR POWER!!!

Then what's the cost of having nuclear power? Fukushima? $300 billion in debt?

That's because THERE ARE NO WORKING, NON-PROTOTYPE THORIUM REACTOR IN THE WORLD! Give it up, thorium ain't happening. Thorium is just yet another pie-in-the-sky scheme conjured up by the nuclear evangelists 2.0 (i.e. the money-sucking scam-artists).

The fact that they're still protesting under the blazing heat of the sun is... something.

KnowBetter: "because they could not afford to pay for the REAL COST OF NOT HAVING NUCLEAR POWER!!!"

How much has Fukushima cost thusfar? How much will it have cost by the time it actually achieves shut down 40 years from now? I'm willing to bet it will cost more than all of the energy Japan has generated since recorded history combined. But come on... let me hear it from the horse's mouth.

The headline puts the cart before the carrot. The POWER this headline speaks of has yet to see the light.

smith in japan,

if you add in all the costs and the government subsidies nuclear power today is more expensive than alternatives. the nuke industry likes to give numbers on operating costs but zero nuke plants would be built at all without government funding and government protection from liability. It is another example of corporate welfare by the LDP government over their decades of control of Japan. Proof of this, Tepco is now owned by the Japanese taxpayers assuming all the costs you state above and no doubt more. It is white collar crime we clearly seeing now, it has of course been going on for years.

KnowBetter, trillions maybe ... but that's just the material cost, the suffering/deaths due to cancer caused by the radiation ain't even factored into that equation. how much is the price in yen will you put equivalent for each person who will develop cancer within 10 yrs? 20 yrs? 50 yrs? THAT is the 'REAL COST OF NOT HAVING NUCLEAR POWER'.

err... I saw in your previous posts you were a banker...
