Police patrol in pedestrian paradise in Ginza

A police officer patrols the so-called "pedestrian paradise" in Ginza on Saturday. Due to the stabbing spree last Sunday which resulted in the closure of the pedestrian paradise in Akihabara, and with an eye toward the upcoming G-8 summit in Hokkaido, police have been strengthening security nationwide. He's the only police officer in this photo, but I'm sure there are several more in the immediate vicinity.

Hopefully with that stick he can do major damage in case of a terrorist attack.

Oh, really? Gees! I never would have thought have that. Thanks for pointing out the blatantly obvious.

In most large cities around the world police patrol in pairs or small groups. Never alone! What is one cop with a baton gonna do against half a dozen thugs? Run? If Japan is serious about security they had better get their act together. The police here do not have a presence, which every terrorist and loony knows.

They should put up a few of those life card stations like at the beach along with the patrols. It could help them keep an eye on things better.

And yeah, they should be patrolling in pairs or small groups.

Yeah I think they should give the cop a machine gun.

he should have a 3 second head start on any potential criminals, if he can get them to close their eyes and count to three slowly. however firstly he should check the contents of the suspicious looking pink handbag held by the heinous looking potential criminal to his right. dont be fooled by that carefree smile, machetes in each sock

Barricades, Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku, and poor Akihabara need BARRICADES!! Try getting near the US Embassy and you will see CEMENT BARRICADES, and not just 1 row of CEMENT BARRICADES but if I remember correctly at least 3 rows! If Akihabara had some strong portable (you need a crane or fork-lift) cement barricades this idiot who ran over 7 people and then finished killing them off with a survival knife would not have been able to get his truck in there. How much do a couple of cement barricades cost? A lot cheaper than all the lives of those innocent people who were killed in Akihabara!
