On the other hand, lottery winnings are not taxed, so if you win 500 million yen, you actually get 500 million yen (minus the cost of the tickets you purchased, of course).

Japanese lotteries are both expensive and the major prize is pittiful compared to foreign lotteries. lucky for the lotteries corps the J Gov made a law that makes it illegal for japanese nationals to play lotteries outside of Japan, yes ridiculous I know. but its just another regulated thing in Japan stopping japanese getting value for there money.
