Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike watches as participants practice using an automated external defibrillator (AED) during a disaster preparedness drill for foreign residents at Komazawa Olympic Park General Sports Ground in Tokyo on Wednesday. The event has been held annually for the past 13 years. In addition to an earthquake simulation vehicle, this year’s drill featured a virtual reality disaster vehicle that allows for a more realistic simulated disaster experience. The Tokyo Fire Department adopted this VR system for training last year, the first firefighting department in the country to do so.
